Up until now, the Detective Pikachu trailers have played up the more zany comedic elements of the first live-action Pokemon movie, but this latest look courtesy of star Ryan Reynolds is a little more heart-felt, as Tim (Justice Smith) explores the visually stunning world inhabited by the adorable little blighters along with his new Pika-pal.

The teaser, which is set to Louis Armstrong's classic “What a Wonderful World,” features some new shots of the colorful pocket monsters being cute in forests and rivers, and right at the end, Pikachu tells a tearful Tim that if his Dad was there he'd "hug so hard, your bones would pop.”

Check out the new trailer below and let us know if you're looking forward to the movie in the comments.

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim (Justice Smith) to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds): a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is set to hit theaters on May 10.

I somehow expect that the twist of this movie will be that Pikachu will be the father of that kid, trapped in a Pokémon-body due to an experiment he worked on.

I grew up with pokemon and I can honestly say I thought the whole detective pikachu idea was really dumb. The trailers for this movie have completely turned me around now I really want to see this movie.
