It was only yesterday that Aquaman 2 secured a release date, but a new rumour has surfaced which points to a group of characters from Geoff Johns' comic book run being introduced. Read on for details...

Yesterday, we learned that we'll be waiting until December 2022 for the Aquaman sequel and, well, that's going to require a lot of patience on our part! It's a release date that makes sense, though, especially as Warner Bros. is being careful not to saturate theaters with its DC Comics adaptations and the first instalment found such a great deal of success in that slot last year.

While work has only just started on the sequel's screenplay, a trusted source for Aquaman news has dropped a scoop about which characters we'll end up seeing. Before we get to that, here's some proof that they have a pretty good track record for this sort of thing:

As for what we should expect from Aquaman 2, it sounds like more of Geoff Johns characters are coming to the big screen (which makes sense based on what happened the first time around).

Introduced during "The New 52" era of storytelling, The Others were a mysterious group of heroes that Aquaman was once part of long before he met the Justice League. They're all humans that wield legendary Atlantean artefacts, and it's easy enough to imagine how they could come into play here, especially as so much of the first movie revolved around Arthur trying to track down Atlan's trident.

What do you guys think about the possibility of seeing The Others on the big screen?

So they're gonna (possibly) make the sequel about finding stuff again?

What a scoop! Announcing a few very easy to assume things about a movie! Who would have thought the aquaman movie would have several popular elements from one of the better runs of his comic!

All things aside, I like the others. Good characters. Good first arc. The spin off series they did wasn’t great tho

the Aquaverse or Aquaman Universe is formerly the Aquaman Shrine and they have a longstanding connection to Geoff Johns. Johns himself told me about them at a comic con almost 10 years ago. They have always shared reliable info and seem to have an in with the artists Ivan Reis as well because they post art before anyone else has it.

That said The Others in a natural choice for the AQuaman sequel and would likely be the most diverse CBM ever made due to the ethnicity of the group members. Damn why 2022 so far away>??

I like that Johns run but it would be nice to see some other material adapted. Like the Peter David stuff

Also, seems like too much will be going on again of The Others are involved. I enjoyed Aquaman but it had A LOT going on and it didn't juggle it all too well at times.

The Others was a really cool read, they'd translate to screen well too so this could be interesting. As long as the main focus is on Black Manta and Dr. Shin then we're good.

This is a good move from WB. They can easily tie in The Others with Black Manta's past... You know with him being a sea pirate. If the characters from The Others comic has or protects Atlantean artifacts then Black Manta and Dr. Shin are looking for these artifacts as well to gain power. Maybe, after all, there can be more backstory to what Manta's father was really looking for. Aquaman becomes aware of this on his watch as King, maybe told from Mera or Vulko and is sent out to find the Others before Black Manta murders them...Maybe something like that. Make it something like a heist movie underwater and on land and that would be so dope.

It's funny how Aquaman's mom Nicole Kidman played in a horror movie called The Others 18 years ago.

I wish that instead of looking at the New 52 WB would look at what worked before then, too. I feel like there is lots of great things you could look at as inspiration, but clearly WB thinks the New 52 is best, which is just sad, because you'll miss out on a lot of great stories.
