Rumours have been swirling for a while now that Sir Patrick Stewart will return as Professor X in Avengers: Secret Wars and the actor may have just added further fuel to the fire. Read on for details...

While the big trailer reveal that Sir Patrick Stewart's Professor X would appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness should have come as a surprise, it didn't. Yes, we'd seen some leaked pre-viz images, but the legendary actor confirmed way back in 2021 that he'd met with Kevin Feige, making it obvious he was being lined up for a future MCU project.

Earlier this year, Stewart was asked if there's a chance he'll show up as the leader of the X-Men in Deadpool 3 and responded, "I've been told to standby. I know nothing more than that, honest."

Since then, rumours have swirled that there are also plans for Charles Xavier to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars (likely alongside Ian McKellen's Magneto). Asked about that this week, Stewart said, "[Laughs] I cannot put it to rest because it's not a fact either for or against. It is a possibility."

"Hugh Jackman and I looked upon Logan as being our farewell," the actor continued. "Given that I died in that film, although I've been told I've actually died several times already [Laughs]. How do I do it?"

When the interviewer brought up the Multiverse and pushed Stewart to confirm more Professor X is a possibility, he simply added, "Yeah, know that and you could get lucky..."

We'd say it's obvious the character will return next year and, beyond that, in those upcoming Avengers movies as well. While it's possible The Marvels' post-credits scene was setting up Deadpool 3, all signs point to the original X-Men being a huge part of The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars (retitling the former "Avengers vs. X-Men" would be a smart move on Marvel Studios' part).

Alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Deadpool franchise vets Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio), and Rob Delaney (Peter) are all set to return in the threequel.

Emma Corrin is expected to play Cassandra Nova - Professor X's sister - while Matthew Macfadyen will likely take on the role of a TVA agent named Paradox. It's also been confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Liev Schreiber, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Wesley Snipes, and even Loki star Owen Wilson among those rumoured or expected to appear.

Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.

@Origame - According to an American insider, he discovered what the next 2 main Marvel films will be like: 1 Spider-Man: Gang War – Peter is living a new life, at the same time he has to work as a food delivery man and photographer, he studies in a University and saves the world as Spider-Man. The Kingpin begins a vigilante hunt and hires Vulture, Black Cat and Scorpion to hunt down the vigilantes. Peter is possessed by the symbiote, but manages to control the symbiote. Peter, Kate Bishop and Daredevil team up to defeat the villains. Vulture, Black Cat and Scorpion attack Peter, Kate Bishop and Daredevil, Black Cat is captured by the heroes, Vulture and Scorpion escape. Black Cat switches to the heroes' side and takes Peter, Kate Bishop and Daredevil to Kingpin, Vulture and Scorpion's hideout. Peter, Kate Bishop, Daredevil and Black Cat manage to kill The Kingpin and Scorpion, but Vulture manages to escape. Peter and Black Cat kiss before saying goodbye. Doctor Doom, along with Mordo, recruits Vulture and talks about his plans to build Battleworld. 2 Avengers: Secret Wars – Doctor Doom, Mordo and Vulture arrive at TVA, the villains kill all TVA employees, and Doctor Doom tells Loki that he intends to create a new Multiverse where there is no poverty and crime and for this he will have to sacrifice most of the creatures in the Multiverse, soon after he steals Loki's powers and kills him. Doctor Doom builds Battleworld where the TVA is located. Nick Fury, Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau and the Fantastic Four are at S.A.B.E.R. and they detect suspicious activity in space. Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau and the Fantastic Four head to Battleworld. Captain Marvel is killed by Vulture, and Monica Rambeau is killed by Mordo, Doctor Doom sends the Fantastic Four to the Light Dimension using an interdimensional transport equipment. Sylvie learns of Loki's death and the creation of Battleworld, and uses Tempad to recruit Wolverine (Hugh) and Deadpool (Ryan), who are in the 616 universe, to help defeat the villains. Nick Fury is in S.A.B.E.R. and learns of the deaths of Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau, and the disappearance of the Fantastic Four, and decides to use a video call to recruit Doctor Strange, Wong, Clea, Sam, Joaquín Torres, Peter (Tom), Banner and Thor to defeat the villains. Fantastic Four meet the cosmic entity called “One Above All” in the Light Dimension, and he tells them that it is in this Dimension that the souls of all creatures in the Multiverse go when they die. Sylvie, Wolverine (Hugh) and Deadpool (Ryan) use Tempad to recruit Peter (Tobey) and Peter (Andrew), who are in the 616 universe, to help defeat the villains. Apocalypse, who is in 616 universe, arrives at Battleworld in a gigantic ship and with a gigantic army of Zombies, he tells Doctor Doom, Mordo and Vulture that he received their message and agrees to help in the creation of the new Multiverse. “One Above All” tells the Fantastic Four that it is not yet time for them to die, and sends them with their power back to 616 universe. Sylvie, Wolverine (Hugh), Deadpool (Ryan), Peter (Tobey) and Peter (Andrew), use Tempad to recruit a variant of Tony Stark (Robert) and a variant of Steve Rogers (Evans), who are in the 616 universe, to help defeat the villains. Doctor Strange, Wong, Clea, Sam, Joaquín Torres, Peter (Tom), Banner and Thor, arrive at Battleworld in a ship, Doctor Doom tells Mordo, Vulture and Apocalypse to let the heroes come to him, and he mocks them because they think they can defeat him with just that army, Doctor Strange opens several portals and Namor, Rhodes, Agatha, Black Panther (Shuri), Echo, Peter Quill, White Vision, Valkyrie, Korg, Daredevil, Black Cat, Wasp, Ant-Man, Young Avengers, Thunderbolds and Guardians of the Galaxy leave them, shortly after, the Fantastic Four arrive on Battleworld, and Sylvie, Wolverine (Hugh), Deadpool (Ryan), Peter (Tobey), Peter (Andrew) and the variants of Tony Stark (Robert) and Steve Rogers (Evans), arrive using Tempad in Battleworld, and a great battle between the heroes against the army of Zombies begins. Wolverine (Hugh) and Deadpool (Ryan) kill Apocalypse. Peter (Tobey), Peter (Andrew) and Peter (Tom), kill Vulture. Wong and Clea kill Mordo. Doctor Strange sacrifices himself to kill Doctor Doom, and the heroes kill the entire Zombie army. A major incursion into the Multiverse caused by the creation of Battleworld takes place, and the Fantastic Four use interdimensional transportation equipment to go to the Light Dimension. Fantastic Four convinces “One Above All” to build a new 616 universe and takes the few survivors of the ancient Multiverse there. (A soft reboot of the MCU happens after this, with some characters continuing to be played by the same actors, and with a recast of iconic characters that left the MCU).

Some actors are just born to play certain parts. Stewert was a perfect choice for Xavior and he simply fits the role. Same as Christopher Reeve, Arnold as Terminator, Stallone as ROCKY and RAMBO and so on. I truly hope he is in the film.
(oh, and Mark Strong as Sinestro)

Think it's a possibility for anyone who starred in any Marvel movie since Howard the Duck. At this point, I'm not surprised regardless of who's gonna show up.

That said, I do specifically wanne see his Xavier return, together with Maguire's Spider-Man, Jackman's Wolverine and RDJ's Iron Man. Even if it's not earned, it's all kid-me wants to see on the big screen.
StSteven
StSteven - 12/2/2023, 3:43 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Agreed. Hell, let's go back to Lou Ferrigno's Hulk and Hammond's Spidey while we're at it!

Seriously, if Marvel is ever going to revisit the previous iterations of any of its characters NOW is the time to do it. I think that the GA is still tolerating the multiverse concept in general because there's still more that can be done with it (I don't know if "The Shift" is any good but if nothing else it shows that at least some folks think that there is still some gas in the multiversal tank), but after Marvel finally puts the lid on this saga it's likely to be quite a while before either they or Hollywood in general go back to the multiverse concept, at least like they have been over the last 5 or 6 years. Especially if Marvel manages to stick the landing with "A:SW" and puts out the multiverse movie to end all multiverse movies. So it's basically now or never for all the previous iterations of those characters.

@StSteven - exactly. Now (as in between now and next few years) is the time to do it.

@StSteven - Can you imagine they are at the TVA and Lou Ferrigno’s Hulk is in a holding cell, across from his cell is Jennifer Garner’s Elektra. It would be f***ed up and it’s all Deadpool’s fault.
StSteven
StSteven - 12/3/2023, 3:30 PM
@Timerider - Yeah, like somehow all of DP's time traveling shenanigans at the end of "DP2" resulted in all those branched timelines requiring the TVA to capture those older non-MCU characters and prune their timelines. Not sure how they would explain all that, but, hey, if it's in "DP3" you don't really have to because he'll just say "Shut the f**k up and go with it!".
StSteven
StSteven - 12/4/2023, 11:22 PM
@LSHF @bkmeijer1 - Yeah, I get the current frustration with Marvel's handling of the Multiverse Saga so far, but without sounding like a Marvel apologist there was A LOT that contributed to how things went and where we are now, and I think that they have plenty of time to right the ship and stick the landing with all this.

Also, I think that aside from a full-on reboot of the MCU (which wouldn't have made any sense given the success that it had had through "A: EG" and the rich mythology and world-building that they had built up by then), using the Multiverse as a way to incorporate all the new properties that Marvel now has under its roof was probably the best way to go. It just wasn't handled as well as it could have been given what a cluster**k Phase 4 was, for reasons that have ben repeated enough that I don't need to get into them.

One other point to consider: Obviously I know that Marvel didn't invent the concept of the Multiverse and it has been around for decades in both sci-fi as well as actual science, but given the massive success of the "Infinity Saga" and the MCU in general, it was only natural that whatever Marvel put out following that was going to be copied, adapted, etc. by all forms of media, particularly in Hollywood, hence the sudden surge of Multiverse stuff everywhere and the way in which all of a sudden it became an element of pop culture writ large (I often use the example of late night hosts casually referring to the Multiverse and variants). This, I think, has been both a blessing and curse for what Marvel had planned for the MS, as on one hand it accomplished the task of making the Multiverse, variants, etc. easily accessible and acceptable/consumable by the GA. On the other hand, it's led to what I would label as a sort of "Multiverse fatigue", which is what I would call it when folks say "Yes, the sooner the better.". 😊

The first sagas storyline was an overarching story built up over a decade. This really just is a cinematic equivalent of tipping all your toys out onto the carpet and smashing them together, but that’s not exciting to anybody but the kid [Feige] doing it.

@FireandBlood - I'd agree with you. But then I saw Toby maguire and Andrew Garfield alongside Tom Holland and I still can't get no way home out of my head. They weren't just cameos. They were an integral part of the story. They even gave the villains time to shine. Seeing these old characters brought to new life in the MCU is honestly quite alluring

@FireandBlood - Well, that was how I feared Endgame would end up feeling but the kid in me took over and loved the portal scene so although always worried it will be more akin to the MoM illuminati type thing or total clusterfric at least open to the idea if handled well could be highly emotive and epic.

Stewart and Jackman were great as Xavier and Logan. Not having them do it again, or casting someone else in the role doesn't diminish that. It protects it. Look, Sean Connery was amazing as James Bond too. But then they made "Never Say Never Again".
