Last year, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav made the controversial decision to pull the plug on Batgirl.
At the time, the movie was close to being finished after months of shooting in Scotland, and directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah only needed to do a few pickups and handle typical post-production work.
After declaring Batgirl a "tax write-off," it became clear the studio had no intention of ever releasing the movie. In fact, after hosting what's been described as a "funeral screening," the entire thing was reportedly deleted and the filmmakers were forbidden from having any further access to it.
As well as introducing Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, the plan had been to bring Michael Keaton back as Gotham City's Batman following the events of The Flash.
Now, a new look at his Caped Crusader has been revealed, and yes, that is indeed his classic Batmobile. We also get a glimpse inside what was presumably Batgirl's base of operations and see Keaton as Bruce Wayne, clearly at home in the DCEU.
The plan had been for Batgirl to lead to this Dark Knight taking centre stage in a Batman Beyond project, likely meaning we could have looked forward to the Bat Family being part of the now-defunct DCEU.
The outrage surrounding Batgirl's cancellation appears to have died down in recent months, but has resurfaced since The Flash was released. Many fans have questioned how those CG Speed Force scenes could be deemed fine for release compared to this "unreleasable" effort.
