Yesterday, we got a first look at Batgirl star Leslie Grace suited up in what looked set to be her Caped Crusader's final, armoured costume.
That's about as much as we'll ever see of the movie, with behind-the-scenes photos the only way this scrapped project is ever going to see the light of day.
After declaring Batgirl a "tax write-off," Warner Bros. Discovery clearly has no intention of releasing the movie. In fact, after hosting what's been described as a "funeral screening," the entire thing was reportedly deleted and directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were forbidden from having any further access to it.
The studio was obviously looking to avoid another #ReleaseTheSnyderCut scenario.
Zack Snyder allegedly stole his cut of Justice League and proceeded to release screenshots online to fuel the movement. However, in this instance, the Batgirl directors have previously acknowledged that their film wasn't close to being ready as there was no VFX and reshoots needed to take place.
Going back to these photos, we see more of Grace in her first Batgirl costume, while she was also photographed alongside Brendan Fraser's Firefly. The Doom Patrol star was set to play the movie's big bad, and previously called the decision to scrap Batgirl a "tragic" one, noting that "it doesn't engender trust among filmmakers and the studio."
It's previously been reported that one of the reasons the movie didn't see the light of day in theaters or on streaming is because it was a little low-budget. Looking at these photos, it's hard not to walk away with that impression, and comparisons to The CW's offerings no longer seem as unfair as they once did.
