Last night, we got word that Warner Bros. Discovery chief David Zaslav was planning to hold "funeral screenings" of the scrapped Batgirl movie for cast, crew and execs before the film is "locked away" for good.
This was a surprising move considering the sheer amount of backlash the studio had received for its decision to shelve the movie in the first place, but even more shocking was the suggestion that Zaslav may "physically destroy" the footage in order to demonstrate to the IRS that there will never be any revenue from the project.
As you can imagine, the report did not go over very well, and has now prompted one of the film's stars, Ivory Aquino, to respond to Zaslav with the following.
In the Twitter thread, Aquino - who had been cast as Barbara Gordon's best friend Alysia Yeoh - reveals that the decision to cancel Batgirl has caused a lot of emotional stress to both herself and costar Leslie Grace. She also outlines why she feels the movie deserves to be seen, and asks Zaslav to reconsider releasing the film.
It'll be interesting to see if Aquino's heartfelt plea makes any difference, but Zaslav might be wise to at least give it some consideration. The events of the past few weeks have not reflected well on Warner Bros. Discovery, and many feel the new CEO has pretty much turned the studio into a laughing stock.
