When Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav made the decision to scrap Batgirl, the response from fans and filmmakers alike was not good.
Like most controversies in Hollywood, it eventually blew over and we haven't seen an outpouring of support anywhere near the level of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, for example. However, someone working in Warner Bros.' marketing department appears to have completely missed the news.
Like Batgirl, Blue Beetle was once destined for a Max debut as part of a slate of lower-budgeted DC movies. However, rather than scrap two DC titles with Latino leads, the decision was made to bring Jaime Reyes' story to theaters.
In a standee promoting the movie's upcoming release, we see that Batgirl is among the DCEU titles advertised as "coming soon."
We'd love to think this is a sign Warner Bros. has changed course and will now release Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah's Batgirl, but that's not going to happen for any number of reasons. It's clearly some sort of marketing snafu and an indication of what appears to be continued disarray inside the studio when it comes to its DC titles.
We're optimistic that will change with DC Studios, though there's so much confusion surrounding the reboot given its use of new and returning actors, it's hard to predict what the future is going to hold in store for the DCU.
Whether Leslie Grace will ever get the opportunity to suit up as Batgirl again is another big question mark, though we'd say it's unlikely. While she's never been blamed for the movie's supposed failings, we'd guess the Bat-Family will be made up of much younger actors seeing as Robin is going to be Damian Wayne.
Blue Beetle, which is expected to struggle at the box office, is set to be released on August 18.
