Comic book fans would love to see heroes like Batman and Nightwing rock the white lenses in their masks from the source material and Chris McKay has now weighed in on whether he's a fan of that concept...

In the comic books, the Batman Family has white eyes in their respective masks, a visual which has been missing from the big screen since Tim Burton's 1989 movie. Christopher Nolan found a way to incorporate that in The Dark Knight and it looked pretty cool but not even Zack Snyder decided to go down that route (aside from the armoured suit the Caped Crusader wore in Batman v Superman).

So, will Nightwing wear them in his upcoming solo outing? Well, director Chris McKay didn't outright confirm that will be the case during a recent fan interaction on Twitter but he's clearly a fan!

The use of white lenses very much seems to boil down to the preferences of comic book artists but they are a staple of these characters and so it will be interesting seeing if McKay can find a non-awkward way to bring them to a live-action setting. Of course, the filmmaker recently confirmed that Nightwing is still in the early stages of development so we probably shouldn't get too excited just yet.

Why not? Well, we probably have at least a year or two to wait until getting a first look at the hero!

@Kevwebsz - If they keep the mask like the comics they can use that as an excuse to have deadpool eyes. Oh and Kevin Zegers.

Tough to do, as eyes are the window to the soul. Spider-Man they have stayed animating his mask, Iron Man they can cut to inside the helmet.

Even such a small mask I can guarantee will be busted open if had white lenses.

I think white contact lenses would be a cool idea so you can still see the eyes generally but they're just subdued in white, good disguise as well really.

I really hope this film gets made, Chris McKay seems to be such a big fan of the character and hopefully that'll show in the end product.

I mean, after Deadpool with his CG eyes...it's time for DC to do the same for characters like Nightwing!

It could be a tactical mask that goes white for night vision and surveillance/reconnaissance needs.

A masterpiece Nightwing movie would restore some faith in the DCEU, that's for sure.

I never really got why so many fans wanted to see this in live action. It's been a staple of artists' depictions of superheroes in comics since forever, but that doesn't mean it translates. Why the hell would they put white lenses in their masks? It worked for Deadpool because his was animated!

@RorMachine - Not to mention that eyes are an incredibly integral part to an actor's performance and visual storytrlling.

some may disagree but i think Zac Efron would be great in this role.

@Jorave123 - I can agree with that. He definitely would be a better fit than that fan cast of Adam Driver.

Is it necessarily a good call to introduce a Nightwing movie before he’s introduced in a Batman/Bat-family movie?
It’s like introducing Bucky without Captain America.
