The Batman was among many movies that had to be shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, but even when cameras did start rolling again, the production certainly wasn't without its difficulties.
Robert Pattinson even ended up catching COVID-19 at one point, and that was something Oswald Cobblepot actor Colin Farrell addressed during a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused's Josh Horowitz. "Obviously, Robert got sick and that was like, 'F***ing Batman has COVID? Batman has COVID? F***ing hell.' We finished it from first turnover to last cut in twelve or fourteen months."
"[Matt Reeves] is cutting it together now," the Irish actor continued. "I haven't heard sight or sound of him. I don't know what he's up to but he's deep into it."
Interestingly (and you can hear these comments in full in the excerpt below), Farrell would go on to confirm that his role in The Batman is a relatively minor one. "I'm only in for five or six scenes so I can't wait to see the film because it won't be ruined by my presence," he joked. "I'll get a little uncomfortable for the nine minutes I have, but the rest of it, I cannot wait to see how [Matt] brought this world to life."
Reeves did say that this was only meant to serve as an introduction for The Penguin, so chances are the plan is for him to take on a bigger role if and when a sequel becomes a reality. Focusing on The Riddler in this first instalment is no bad thing, though, especially if it means he's given chance to shine as a truly formidable opponent for the Dark Knight.
Throw in plans for Catwoman, and it's no wonder Oswald has been sidelined to at least some extent!
