Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn't loved by all, but from a visual perspective, it looked great. While director Zack Snyder remains hard at work putting the finishing touches to the version of Justice League coming to HBO Max, it seems the filmmaker has plans for his 2016 film as well. 

On VERO, Snyder confirmed that he, "Was at Co3 yesterday with Stefan and we were working on the remastering of BvS restoring the IMAX aspect ratio and I think you’re gonna see a bit more."

Why is Snyder restoring the IMAX ratio for Batman v Superman? It seems unlikely it's being done for a theatrical re-release, as those prints are surely still in existence. Instead, it's feasible that the director wants to share this version of the film on HBO Max or another Blu-ray release, albeit with much more of the picture on display rather than it being cut off by a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.

When he says "[we're] gonna see a bit more" of the film, it's unclear whether there are more scenes which didn't even make it into the lengthy Ultimate Cut or if he just means the size of the picture.

Snyder has yet to share additional updates, but we'll hopefully have more on this story for you shortly.

@JohnPain - genuine question: what is it WBs massive trust in their DCEU properties? Especially Snyder's projects.
Their best earning DCEU movies were the ones actively stepping AWAY from Zack's vision (WW and Aquaman).
So why invest more in him? Is it the power he whields over his fans?

@Blergh - My guess is WB is, after all these years, still thinking people like DC being "Dark and Gritty".

Snyderverse (as in snyder-like movies) is an attempt of nolanizing the DC universe.

It didn't look that good visually. Just like something Bay or Abrams or some young director would throw out.

Many of the shots were flat, despite layers of crap going on. Because his angles were weak and they didn't shoot sets properly.

True mastery in a CBM would be in Nolan's first two Batman movies.

@ManDeth - I agree. Even though this was Sndyer bringing back Fong after 300 and Watchmen, you never saw glorious shots like in those 2 films. BvS is a very muddy dull looking film.

@ManDeth - I don't know. I think that's taking it too far. I understand alot of the problems with Zack. I hate MoS more than is healthy. That being said MoS and BvS are some of the best looking comic movies I've seen.

@aresww3 - agreed, visually Zack Snyder as an amazing talent. And I'd love a world in wich we had Snyder as the visual artist behind these movies instead of being the director.
Heck, Whedon doing the story and Snyder the visuals? I would have watched that.

@ManDeth - Eh, Nolan's a bit overrated as a director. Most of his movies are great due to concept, script, actors, etc.

Even though the Dark Knight films were great, it wasn't because of the directing. He can't film a coherent action scene for the life of me. So many action scenes in all three movies just left me scratching my head.

The hate for Snyder is so strong on this site that people will say anything. I get people who didn’t like the choices Snyder made (to an extent) but both BvS is easily one of the very best comic book films if we’re basing it solely on visuals. It beats out literally everything else on Cinematography and visuals alone.

@ManDeth - Nolan’s first two Batman films had some gorgeous scenes (TDKR is trash) but like someone else had mentioned - he can’t direct a great action scene to save his life. Not without incoherent editing and having a single fight have 10-15 cuts lol

I get that most (on this site) want to shit on Snyder but if you’re trying to make the argument that his films look like shit then... lol nice try

@ymk700 - nolan's batman begins is incredible. dark knight is a masterpiece and you think Nolan has nothing to do with bringing all those elements together.

Sure I get it. His action wasn't great, but actually in BB he really got the logic of how Batman would fight. ie in the shadows. Its a weakness, but everything else was incredible in the first two batman movies. Also if you read Goyers mess of a Batman script for BB, Nolan took all the best elements and made it way better.

@BornToLose - Also. You have to seperate fight scenes from action. Nolan did great Batmobile action scenes. Same as his take over of the plane or the use of Bat sonar to take down the Jokers goons. So yes Batman hand to hand fights weren't great, but Batman Begins and Dark Knight still had great action scenes, especially the Batmobile stuff.

@aresww3 - Agreed on Nolan. His films look fantastic and I'm perplexed at anyone comparing Snyder to Nolan. BvS has some of the worst visuals I've ever seen. Nothing looks natural due to the awful color palette, the film lacks establishing shots, everything feels small from the city to the daily planet. There's nothing unique about Gotham or Metropolis. The fight between Batman and Superman is so laughably bad, Matrix 3 did the whole alley fight in the rain better a decade earlier. When Batman is swinging around the CGI Superman it just makes me laugh.

@aresww3 - I'm not discrediting his other contributions to the film. I know he is involved in many other aspects of the film, other than simply directing what's on camera. But that doesn't take away from the fact that his action directing and editing skills are poor in those Batman films.

@aresww3 - Again, he's a good storyteller and his movies are, more often than not, well scripted and high concept films, but his action execution is poor in TDK films. His other films are much better.

And I disagree in regards to hand to hand combat versus Batmobile scenes. Both are poorly shot and edited. The Batmobile/Batpod vs Joker/Semi-Truck sequence from the Dark Knight was very poorly edited and was confusing as heck. No consistency at all. The fact that the sequence still turned out well was due to the build up and atmosphere that was created prior to the actual action taking place.

The break-neck pace at which WB is releasing all of their new content has me on the edge of my seat. Who knew a brain could take such an overload of fresh material. It's so exhilarating that they take a beat, slow it down and smell the roses by re-releasing such masterful and acclaimed properties as a change of pace.

What a joke. Can we get some film makers in there that want to release good shit, in a timely manner and not "new cuts" of films that were divisive at best?

Obviously I'm in the minority here, but the 3 hour extended cut is outstanding, definitely Top 5 for me. I know for a fact he left scenes on the cutting room floor, because I was in one of the scenes that didn't make the theatrical or extended cut.
