“ BIRDS OF PREY Star Margot Robbie Says She's Been "Pushing" To Being Poison Ivy To The Big Screen”

I think there's a grammatical error on the headline.

Robbie is a smart business person. And I love her in pretty much every role except for Harley. But it seems desperate/strange of WB/DC to give her near-complete creative control of not only her character but upcoming films. Like is Margot Robbie the Kevin Feige of DC now? It seems like she has a pretty strong input on where things go from here concerning her corner of this scattered group of puzzle pieces that is the DCEU nowadays.

“ Like is Margot Robbie the Kevin Feige of DC now?”

That’s Walter Hamada. I do think WB has given Robbie a lot of control over HQ and her projects. Pretty sure her production company was behind Birds of Prey.

As long as the movie ends up being good I don’t have an issue with it. They’re clearly doing more standalone franchises and stories now without focusing on building a universe like Marvel.

Which I also don’t have a problem with 👍🏻 They failed pretty miserably when they tried it. And honestly this gives us more variety.

SpideyPuffsMJ - 1/28/2020, 8:56 AM
@regularmovieguy - I'm all for the variety. I just worry they're throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. Expect them to pressure Phoenix/Phillips hard for an unnecessary Joker sequel. If Birds of Prey hits, same thing. Batman, etc. It's funny because they're really going back in time to the trilogy model that was pretty much how things worked before the MCU. Before they botched copying that model so hard.

@SpideyPuffsMJ

I can almost guarantee we’re getting a sequel to BOP. If this does 200 mil+ domestic you can bank on it.

I don’t want a Joker sequel but I would be there opening night if they made one.

Nothing wrong with trilogies either 🤟🏻 Stories should have a beginning and ending.

TBF I don’t think they ever officially announced that but yeah that was one of movies I was most hyped for.

Was always a long shot imo. But it sounded [frick]ing awesome.

I can dig. 'Harley Quinn's second emancipation after being in birds of a prey and suicide squad, oh and here's poison ivy' really does have a ring to it
MuadDib
MuadDib - 1/28/2020, 8:52 AM
Harley is over hyped and we’ve seen Ivy before.. not that it wouldn’t be cool to see her again.. I want Clay Face.. a comic book accurate Bane... or maybe a Talon... idk..

Margot is hot.. and she’s an ok actress.. but this Harley push is too much..

She didn’t even exist until BTAS...

regularmovieguy - 1/28/2020, 8:57 AM
@MuadDib

Margot’s one of the best young actresses working right now. I, Tonya. Wolf of Wall Street. She was pretty great in Bombshell too and that was a mediocre movie at best.

I’m going to wait and see how BOP turns out before I call for her head too. This only her second movie 😂

tmp3 - 1/28/2020, 9:09 AM
@regularmovieguy - She’s gonna be in the next David O Russell film with Christian Bale, and then she’s got the Gerwig/Baumbach Barbie film coming up too. Kind of crazy how prolific she became in such a short period of time
regularmovieguy
regularmovieguy - 1/28/2020, 9:12 AM
@tmp3

I keep hearing about this David O’Russell movie but I haven’t really seen it in the trades.

Going to be a rom-com, right? And yeah, feel like WOWS pushed her into the stratosphere and I, Tonya cemented her.

tmp3 - 1/28/2020, 9:13 AM
@regularmovieguy - It was confirmed by Collider back in Jan, starring Bale w/ Jamie Foxx, Angelina Jolie and Robbie in talks. JLaw was meant to be Robbie’s role at one point but schedules couldn’t align.

"Comic accuracy" was neither an issue or even a thing until about 2012 and now everyone is all about it.

regularmovieguy - 1/28/2020, 9:32 AM
@Reeds2Much

I thought comic accuracy has been a thing since the Burton Batman or even the X-Men movies in the 2000s.

It’s dumb but I feel like it’s been around for a while.
Reeds2Much
Reeds2Much - 1/28/2020, 9:43 AM
@regularmovieguy - Comic accuracy was never a thing with the studios, and the complaints were only minor and always disappeared after the movies came out.

It's really a new phenomenon that people lose their minds and cry about how it's a movie ruining issue. Birds of Prey and Spider-Man are perfect examples of it.
MuadDib
MuadDib - 1/28/2020, 10:09 AM
@Reeds2Much - Negative. The entire reason this genre exists and is as popular as it is, is bc kids way back use to day dream about one day seeing their favorite superheroes come to life on the big screen. Sups and Bats were some of the first to make the leap. Thus they enjoyed success.

Marvel has been very good about walking a line that allowed them to tap into a vast catalogue of established characters all with rush histories, while making minor alterations when necessary. Obviously you can always find the expectation to anything.

That said, I was referring to Bane.. which aside from the funny looking version that coincidentally appeared along side Ivy .. has never been shown as he looks in the comics.. that’s what I mean by comic accurate..

Clay Face... not a grounded take ... a comic book accurate Clay Face.. it’s not hard

Disney live action remakes that stick to the source material get better audience reviews and make more money. I wonder why? Their Cinderella remake didn’t even come close to say.. Jungle Book or Beauty and the Beast. Bc they stuck very close to the originals

Last point.. as a kid.. when you fantasized about seeing things in comics and in books and things from your imagination.. come to life on the big screen in real life.. did you think.. boy it would be so cool to see “X” on screen or I hope one day they make a movie about “X” .. but I hope they change stuff about his origins or main storylines from that super popular book?

If you change certain aspects you can easily change the chemistry and change what made something stand out as special.. when something is a success.. and is liked or loved by the masses.. changing them isn’t always the smartest move.. hows the old saying go? Dont fix it if it ain’t broken..

We could go back and forth forever.. I respect your opinion

But I think your wrong
Reeds2Much
Reeds2Much - 1/28/2020, 11:23 AM
@MuadDib - MuadDib - Marvel has been very good

Yeah, I'mma stop you there. There's little "minor" in the differences between the MCU and it's source. Like I told the other person that tried that, Steve wasn't fighting Hydra during World War 2 and Bucky wasn't his best friend from Brooklyn, Tony hid his identity for in-world years and Rhodey was a Marine and also not a long-time friend, and pretty much all of Thor.

Donner's movies aren't accurate (Pretty much all of Luthor), Burton was certainly off (socially awkward Bruce Wayne wut?), and yes I'm aware that the comics retconned Spidy to have organic webs to match the movies, and has been removed again so Raimi is certainly no better. That's not even beginning on how inaccurate all their villains were.

And speaking of Batman, how about retconning? Spider-Man's relationship with Mary Jane was a retcon of her "always knowing" from being his neighbor not to mention the whole organic webshooter mess, Superman was a dude that was strong and could jump real good but because jumping was harder to draw they decided he should fly instead ... and then laser eyes were cool and so on and so forth in a ridiculous cycle of powercreep that would make Goku blush, and then Batman got retconned so hard in the 80s by Alan Moore and Frank Miller that he's basically a completely different character from Bill Finger's original; So much so that people complain about Adam West's show which was closer to accuracy to Bill Finger's book than Burton and Nolan were to Moore and Miller. While some people might have complained about the lack of them, no one is really holding the costumes in the X-movies or how prominent Wolverine was against them. And let's be real for a second: Logan was about as comic accurate as my wedding video. And do I even have to mention Joker?

They weren't accurate, and everyone was fine with it. They were entertaining. The kind of rage that Birds of Prey and Spider-Man (now) get for diverging from their sources are pretty new. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." "If it wasn't accurate before, why start now?"

@Reeds2Much - Like I said and autocorrect changed, there are exceptions for everything.

I’m not wrong in having high standards that the movies in question regardless of character or universe resemble the character that I fell in love with as a child.

So again, to each their own. In my world and in my circle or friends and those who’s opinions actually matter to me. I’m right.

Good day sir.

I said good day!
