We recently asked you, the CBM community, how you'd rate Blue Beetle, and given the movie's somewhat divisive reception and underwhelming box office performance, the results might surprise you...

Blue Beetle opened in theaters last Friday, and didn't exactly make a major impact at the box office. After a week of release, Warner Bros.' latest DC Comics movie has only just passed $60 million worldwide.

Despite overall positive reviews (its Rotten Tomatoes score has increased to 78%), general audiences just don't seem very interested in Jaime Reyes' first big-screen outing.

Whether this is down to the character being relatively obscure, "superhero fatigue," or the perception that the DC brand has been severely damaged by a string of lacklustre films is up for debate, but Blue Beetle has proved fairly popular with the CBM community.

The results of our recent poll are in, and with a total of 767 votes, 31% of you felt the movie was "very good." The most positive option, "excellent," was next with 21% of the votes, followed by "good" at 20%, "watchable" at 16% and "awful" at 12%.

There's a chance word-of-mouth could turn things around for Blue Beetle as it heads into its second week in theaters, but even with a modest budget of $120 million, all signs point to another flop for the studio. Reyes is expected to stick around in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DCU, but a direct sequel is highly unlikely.

"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."

"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."

The cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.

Blue Beetle is now in theaters.

I don't understand, they show us the same movie and the same jokes over and over again and you're like "oh, that's okay".
No wonder we got shitter movies...

@KyoShiRo330 - if you’ve seen the last several DC movies you’d see this movie as an improvement. Not saying much but better than what’s come from before

I’d rate it 2 brown cockroaches out of 5 blue beetles.

Some movies you just don’t bother with, like Morbius. This is another one of those

I only just saw this movie. Morning showing at my local cinema.

My opinion? Well it was derivative, cheap, mid AF... and probably the best thing DC has done in some time.

I feel the same way about this as I do the first Shazam movie. If they cut all the references to other DC superheroes and gave it a much larger budget, I think the movie might have been an Aquaman/Wonder Woman-level success.

I quite liked this. I don't know if all of that will resonate with fans of the character in other media, but it did with me, for most part. This did go some unexpected places, not always successfully, but it gets some points for being daring. Loses some others for slightly contradicting itself due to the restraints of being a Hollywood product though. It has a lot of soul, that's for sure! Not something I'd catch twice on the big screen, but once this is online, I will revisit it.

They should've done an s1 tv series ....and then added him in to future DC movies. This is a formula DC should really consider going forward. Their movies just don't make enough money.

@emeraldtaurus - I like this approach and especially if it’s on HBOMax. I think WB could have something great on their hands if they went down that approach and avoid all the angst of the CW drama in their shows.

@Arthorious - exactly dude. They should do it separate to CW. As Gunn said ...he plans to link the new DC Movies with the DC TV shows. It'd worked well at Marvel. And it'll save alot of movie and embarrassment.
