CAPTAIN MARVEL Concept Art Reveals First 3D Model For Carol Danvers' Comic Accurate Costume

2019's Captain Marvel finally brought Carol Danvers to the big screen, and in this awesome piece of concept art shared by Andy Park, we get to see the first 3D model of the hero's comic accurate costume.

Thanks to Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development, Andy Park, we have a cool new look at the first 3D model which was created to bring Carol Danvers' comic book costume to life in Captain Marvel (there are, of course, some fans who would argue that her most "iconic" outfit was the skimpy number she wore as Ms. Marvel for all those years).

This 3D concept art was created after Park "got the concept design illustration approved by the directors & Marvel Studios," and he notes that he used Pixologic ZBrush to create the image, while thanking his team made up of Ian Joyner, Jerad S. Marantz, Adam Ross and Tully Summers.

When Brie Larson reprised the role in Avengers: Endgame, she had a brand new costume, and her outfit likely to change yet again when we catch up with the hero in the planned sequel. Literally nothing is known about Captain Marvel 2, though Marvel Studios is said to be looking for a female director, and rumour has it the movie could end up adapting the "Secret Invasion" storyline.

Captain Marvel 2 is set to be released on July 8th, 2022, and you can check out the artwork below:

A little while back I posted a cropped version that was pretty dark & difficult to see. Here’s a full body 3D model I sculpted after I got the concept design illustration approved by the directors & Marvel Studios. Up until that moment it was just the 3/4 2D image I had in my painting. At this point I usually will do a painting of the back view of the character/costume for the costume designer to start figuring out how to make it for real on the actor. This time around I really wanted to resolve every angle so I built this in 3D using @zbrushatpixologic It helps that I have 3D masters in my team like @ianjoynerart @jsmarantz @adamwross & Tully Summers to help me out whenever I have a technical question. I'm not a massive fan of how she wrote Carol, but I will never be able to thank Kelly Sue DeConnick enough for making this costume redesign happen.

Only things I like about the movie was their suits and some of the character relationships (carol, Maria and her daughter)...

but back to the suits...they way they made biker looking jackets look like heavy duty space armour in post blew me noggin.

One thing that strikes me about the CGI in Captain Marvel is how they CG'd Larson's face into the helmet without giving her the floating head treatment Downey and Cheadle have been dealing with. This was some of the most seamless work I'd seen done on a design this immersive and it was better than even most of the Tony stuff in Infinity War

@MrDandy - Imagine if Andy Park had to work with Carol's comic costumes before, though. We probably would have gotten something that looked like this:

...with a lighting bolt motif on the chest. It still could have worked, but the McKelvie design provided a great foundation for Park to riff.

I think if they give her a better script and direction, I think Brie can make Captain Marvel actually interesting aside from a cool looking suit (the Endgame one)
