CRUELLA Star Emma Stone Addresses Those JOKER Comparisons And Says The Disney Movie Is "Very Different"

Since the first trailer for Cruella was released, we've seen fans make plenty of comparisons to Joker. Star Emma Stone has now addressed this, & we also have a new batch of stills from the Disney movie.

Cruella arrives in theaters and on Disney+'s Premier Access service on May 28th, and it certainly looks like the movie will deliver a unique new take on the classic 101 Dalmatians villain.

Since that first trailer was released, there have been lots of comparisons to 2019's Joker, with many convinced that this origin story will deliver a similarly unique take on Cruella de Vil. During a recent interview with Total Film, star Emma Stone went some way towards dispelling that notion.

"It's very different from Joker in many ways," she laughed, before adding: "I would never even remotely compare myself to Joaquin Phoenix. I wish I was more like him."

Director Craig Gillespie adds: "There are some really deep, emotional things that Cruella's dealing with that send her to the villainous darker side. So in that sense, it is [similar]. But it's definitely its own thing. Just to sort of reframe Cruella, I thought it was important to show this darker side of her. But there's going to be a lot of fun, a lot of humour in it. There's a lot of absolutely delightful banter and rhythm to the style of it, which is different from Joker."

Some new stills from Cruella have also been released, with these again putting the spotlight primarily on the title villain. However, a few other cast members also receive the spotlight, including Mark Strong.
