2021's Eternals was Marvel Studios' first critical failure and, due to it being released in the final months of the pandemic, the movie also struggled financially.

While there's no denying it was a little overstuffed with an abysmal villain in Kro, there was a lot about Eternals which worked really well and it now feels like it has an undeserved bad rap. After all, it showed a different side of the MCU and set the stage for some exciting future stories.

Unfortunately, we've yet to see any sort of follow-up to that big cliffhanger and it's unclear when or where we'll learn what became of the Eternals taken from Earth by the Celestial Arishem for judgement.

On the plus side, the remains of Tiamut are expected to be a key plot point in Captain America: Brave New World!

Concept artist Wesley Burt recently took to social media to share a huge new gallery of Eternals concept art, putting the spotlight on a number of comic-accurate costumes for this team of immortals. As unique as the designs we saw on screen were, these arguably knock them all out of the park.

We also see some beautiful exploration shots of the Celestials, though we'd argue that the finished product was every bit as impressive as Burt's artwork.

When these characters do eventually return, there's really no reason they can't be decked out in newly designed costumes. If so, we're hoping Marvel Studios will embrace the comics and, more specifically, Jack Kirby's original designs.

Much better than the weird metal robes they wore in the movie.

@kazuma - Yeah, thought the costumes were trash. None of them stood out or looked interesting. Should've stayed more faithful to the source material, but thats what you get when you hire a non comic book fan to direct.

@mastakilla39 - not everything works in movies if fan was made it look at lizard comic accurate fans hate it , thor three costume fans hate it ,

@dragon316 - Nah I think fans will actually appreciate the looks of the original costumes or something similar on screen. Just look at peacemaker and kick ass. The wacky costume lets viewers know its set in a wacky world. Trying to ground it too much makes it bland.

@kazuma - As always, concept art is WAY more creative than the diluted down shit we see on screen. Unfortunately, this is always going to happen when trying to cater for a mass audience. The Doctor Strange concept art was phenomenal and we barely saw any of it.

I LOVE the MCU. Like, LOVE IT.

And I forgot about this movie. Just like the MCU has forgotten to mention a giant celestial sticking out of the ocean since it happened.

@DonBeastly - when are they going to address the giant celestial sticking out of the ocean??

@WhatIfRickJames @DonBeastly - Word is that this will be the focus of Cap 4, multi-national superhero teams racing to claim the Celestial corpse and whatever exotic resources it contains (maybe even adamantium?)

@ClintThaHamster - Deadpool is probably going to mention that they had to mine it from the taint or something

I’ve literally seen this movie once. It was largely forgettable. Maybe I should revisit.

@HammerLegFoot - I have no idea. My guess is the general tone was too serious for them.

@HammerLegFoot - I didnt like the eternals comics as a kid. had no desire to see them in a movie.

@HammerLegFoot - I thought it was overlong, and some of the performances (Madden in particular) were wooden. But I agree, no MCU movie is as bad as its detractors would like to think.

I liked Eternals, didn't love it. It had the potential to be very cool. I've watched it a couple of times since and it's ho-hum but not bad. I personally don't understand the hate

Weird movie. Dont know why they thought the concept would be easier for people to follow than Inhumans which has more interesting and more distinct characters. The eternals had some weird cgi green lantern powers.. also Icarus killing himself was weird, Sprite betraying everyone then agreeing to be human only cause the actress is inevitably going to age in real life was weird, the horrible Pip the troll cgi was weird, Blade stinger which led absolutely nowhere is weird. Why couldnt we get a Black Knight show instead of all the power puff girl shows we’re being forced on us

NGL, I had a very WTF response to OG Kirby Eternals as a kid when I got the rando issue at the newsstand - didn't like the bait and switch 'Hulk Robot' type of shit but I still bought it every time I saw it BECAUSE KIRBY.

I had no idea of the Chariots of the Gods influence or the reworked New Gods ideas or any of the super whackadoo shit going on beneath the surface as I was six or seven years old - but now - knowing all of the backstory and inspo for the book - I [frick]ING LOVE IT but freely admit it was all over the shop - much like the 70s Kirby EVERYTHING.

Having said that, THE MOVE ATE GIANT SIZE MAN THINGS. FULL [frick]ING STOP. Total [frick]ing GARBAGE.

The only concept art I want to see is what good concepts got trashed in order to facilitate the making of the giant bag of dicks that released to theaters.

I never thought Marvel movies would get worse than this one, but they found a way.
