Thena (Angelina Jolie) was introduced along with her fellow immortal androids in 2021's divisive Eternals, and some newly-revealed concept art for the character has now found its way online.

As you'll see at the link below, some of the costume designs that were considered for the "Goddess of War" were quite different to what we ultimately saw on screen.

During an interview that came out shortly after the movie's release, Jolie was asked about potentially reprising the role, for either a direct sequel or a solo Thena adventure.

"I loved being part of the family, so I have no desire to separate from the family. But I would be happy to play her again and explore even more deeply the struggles that she has. I think it’s fun thinking of where they’ve been over the years. We’ve got thousands of years worth of material. We can take her anywhere. I think that’s fun and I like the idea that we can pop up somewhere, maybe in other Marvel movies."

Will we see an Eternals sequel? There have been conflicting reports, but rumors persist that another film is planned.

MCU sequels are a regular occurrence, of course, but Eternals is the only Marvel Studios movie to drop to "rotten" status on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, and the superhero epic finished up its U.S. run with a disappointing $164.9 million, giving it the lowest domestic haul of any MCU-set movie aside from 2008's The Incredible Hulk ($134M).

Even so, the first film left quite a few dangling plot threads that still haven't been addressed, and it's difficult to imagine Kevin Feige would simply decide to forget about these characters.

If they go with a sequel then they need to better plan the story. They should not use the celestials as villains as that is above the pay grade for the Eternals. If Taiko Watiti had not killed Odin and turned Asgard into an amusement park, I would have had the Eternals involved in mediating a War with the Asgardians led by Odin and Thor versus the Olympians led by Zeus and Hercules. Have them be manipulated into that war by some hidden big bad that they would all have to come together to defeat.

There was a lot I liked about this one, but it was let down by its script.

If they would have done what they should have done - which is to show more of the Eternals in the past - we could have seen Thena back in ancient Greece in her battle armor.

An absolutely amazing Eternals movie would have been 80% the eternals in the past each influencing different ancient civilizations, while laying the seeds for the Celestials plan for Earth, and then move to the present where they have to unite to stop Tiamat. No Deviants, cut most of the boring modern story. It could have been so epic.

I’d be happy to see the same cast and director again but with a slightly stronger story, and pick up on some of those unused threads like the dead Celestial or the Black Knight for example. That said I’m going to suggest the Celestials will be revisited in upcoming Fantastic Four movie.

They looked at all these interesting designs and said, "make mine BLAND!"

@Origame - some say bland...some say simplicity...i loved the tracings, and designs, and thought the costumes were beautiful, because they were simple...and how the same design was mimicked in their ship and on their weapons...normally i hate minimalism...but this was elegant with hints of asian aesthetics...which makes sense, given the director, lol.

They wasted a good actress and potentially good character idea for Thena, in the this terrible movie

More than any other project, I think Eternals needed a companion D+ special that came out prior to the movie. Part of the fun of the concept is these characters forming all the early human legends of gods and heroes, and you can't fit all that into one movie.

I think the Eternals are cool, and the fight scenes in the movie are seriously some of the best in the canon. They just need more focused storytelling

@ShellHead - Movies never should need to have companion things to understand it. That is the biggest Star Wars mistake. If you need a companion thing, maybe a movie is not the better fit to tell the story
