Ghostface takes Manhattan!

As promised, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group have released the first teaser trailer and poster for Scream 6 (now officially known as Scream VI), and it looks like the latest incarnation of the iconic serial killer known as Ghostface has tracked the survivors of the last movie to New York City.

The footage doesn't reveal very much, but we do see Sam, Tara, Mindy and Chad - who appears to have an impressive immunity to multiple stab wounds - riding the subway when several individuals wearing Ghostface costumes close in around them.

One of the potential murderers grabs Mindy by the throat, and we cut to the logo.

This will be the first instalment of the long-running horror franchise not to feature lead character Sidney Prescott (you can check out a statement from Neve Campbell here), but Courteney Cox is expected to return as Gale Weathers. David Arquette will not reprise the role of Dewey Riley... for obvious reasons!

Check out the teaser and poster below, along with an updated synopsis.

Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera ("Sam Carpenter"), Jasmin Savoy Brown ("Mindy Meeks-Martin"), Mason Gooding ("Chad Meeks-Martin"), Jenna Ortega ("Tara Carpenter"), Hayden Panettiere ("Kirby Reed"), and Courtney Cox ("Gale Weathers") return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra and Samara Weaving.

Last thing I recall from this franchise was Scream 2. What's been going on?

I do hope they eventually make the "Ghost face" killer a global problem. Similar to that silly clown social media craze. Where people would dress as clowns to hide or scare people or activate people's ring doorbells. Would be interested to see Scream tackle that concept where the world begins to glorify Ghost face and teens and young adults make the killers trend and become icons. Which obviously sends a deep message later on.

We're already on Ghostface takes Manhattan?

At this rate we'll have to skip Ghostface goes to hell and the next film will be Ghostface x, where he goes to space and becomes a robot.

I ride the subway home 5 miles every night shy of midnight. Ghostface ain't ever gonna be the scariest thing on those trains. May as well have made the movie about naked homeless people masturbating for all to see.

By pure coincidence, I’m flying in to NYC on opening night! I’ll be looking up theaters to see which one will be the most fun to see this at. Any recommendations are welcomed :)

@TheLobster - Most Manhattan theaters are decent enough. There are now a couple of Alamo Drafthouse theaters in the city that are awesome. 84th St & Broadway has an awesome theater with big reclining seats. Times Square has two massive theaters opposite one another. Union Square or Kips Bay (East 30th St) are both very solid theaters. If you want to really see something special, you go to the theater by Lincoln Center (where they actually often host film premiers) and you see whatever is playing on the IMAX screen, cause it’s one of the proper IMAX screens that is several stories tall and will blow your mind just to see it.

@MosquitoFarmer - thanks for the recs! I’ll have to check out LC since I wanna go somewhere that’s unique. I used to live next to the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco and I loved that theater! The deep fried pickles with a beer? Come onnnnn

I'm keeping my finger crossed that they worked things out with Neve in time for a post credits scene or cameo with Sidney. I won't hold my breath, but I know she still has love for the franchise.

Imo she's more important to Scream than Jamie Lee Curtis is to Halloween. All of these other horror franchises have iconic villains for consistency. As Ghostface changes from film to film, Sidney has always been that tether that holds everything together.

Changing it from small town to a big city could be fun. Last time I can remember a franchise like this doing that was Friday The 13th
