@AllsGood - Funny you keep posting that same "Make Mine Marvel" picture, acting like the MCU is using those characters, if they were using them, Marvel would still be the powerhouse it once was, now more than half of those pictured are dead, dumbed down in favor of their superior female replacement or just replaced with a substandard knock off.

Make mine Marvel again after Secret Wars when they reboot the whole thing.

@IronMan616 - You mean Marvel Studios should have followed WB/DC path of making more comic book accurate less humor movies for success?

marvel72
marvel72 - 1/9/2024, 12:42 PM
@AllsGood - The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 was the best comic book movie because it didn't feel like it was a movie from Phase 4 or 5,it was like it came out of Phase 3.

Spider-Man:Across The Spider-Verse was good but not as good as the first movie.

Ant-Man And The Wasp:Quantumania is a steaming pile of shit that I never want to see.

@AllsGood - Who mentioned DC? I'm talking about Marvel going to shit when they killed/replaced the heroes in favor of cheap dollar store knock offs and you posting that same picture over and over again acting like Marvel is still using them.

Go around that circle, and photoshop the heads with the replacements and tell me which picture would look superior.

The current MCU

Variant
Variant - 1/9/2024, 1:32 PM
@IronMan616 - Funny people that argue like this love to cherry pick and reach like Mr. Fantastic. Dude, the MCU still sits at the top of CBMs. As for the "dead / dumbed down" characters, some of them are dead and some of them are still here. But that one photo is hardly a representation of every character Marvel has to offer. I understand some people can't handle change. But to hold the expectation that human actors can portray a character for over 10+ years is quite unreasonable. Yes it can happen. And yes it HAS happened. But it's not typical nor should it be expected. Not to mention, it's not feasible to make comic book movies / live action adaptations at the same rate as comic books and animations. Even animation can have different voice actors that sound similar to keep head canon.

We have to move on and look forward to the Blades and Ghost Riders and Fantastic Four and X-Men ETC. We scratched the surface with Avengers and now we have so much more ahead of us. The complaining is frankly childish and bratty. Taking the MCU for granted is like a spoiled kid taking all their privileges for granted. I have many gripes about the MCU. But at the end of the day I know nothing can be perfect and I just appreciate that someone like Kevin Feige came along and built a studio that has given us this thing we know as the MCU.

But hey man. Be my guest. Go to another CBM franchise and let us know how it is.

AllsGood
AllsGood - 1/9/2024, 1:34 PM
@IronMan616 - Because 15 YEARS Later Marvel Studios still much live making movies. With Avengers 5 coming out in 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. With a lot of Marvel movies in between. Don't sound Dead or even on life support to me.

Variant
Variant - 1/9/2024, 1:38 PM
@marvel72 - That's backwards thinking tho. GotG 3 was great because GotG 3 was great. A Phase doesn't make a film, a collection of films make a Phase. And GotG 3 being a part of Phase 5 gives value to Phase 5. Just as Shang-Chi and NWH gave value to Phase 4.

And yes, I have my gripes with Thor 4 and DS2. But I still like them better than say, Thor 2 and Hulk. People forget Phase 1-3 were hardly perfect.

Also, Phase 4 actually reviews higher than Phase 1 and 2. And just shy of Phase 3. And I'm willing to bet Phase 5 is going to finish its run even better.

I speak in facts, not feelings.
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 1/9/2024, 1:49 PM
@Variant - I'll give you X-Men since it was a successful franchise, but the others? I mean, Fantastic Four could be successful, but in this era of film making, with Marvel/Disney's priorities of "message first" with the "FF movie is too white" comments, I do not believe for one second they have it in their heads to make a good movie first and everything else a second priority.

And as far as not letting go, I can let go, hell with Iron Man, I waited damn near my entire life for a live action movie, I can wait a bit for a reboot, it's Marvel that doesn't want to let go, that's why they're putting in their cheap knockoffs thinking they can replace the originals, or that they'll be as successful as the originals. that's why they're making Armor Wars without Tony Stark, an Iron Heart movie with Iron Man villains.

They want to make a hard R-Rated Blade and Ghost Rider movie and some good X-Men and Fantastic Four movies while I wait for the eventual MCU reboot or recasts, great, I'm all for it. They want to make a cheap knockoff Iron Man or Captain America movie, trying to pass it off as the originals f- no, I'm not for that.
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 1/9/2024, 1:53 PM
@AllsGood - you're missing my point, I root for Marvel to succeed, like Star Wars want it to succeed, I grew up with those franchises, I hope they never die, BUT with the current direction they're headed, they may not be dead, but they have a terrible disease, an infection that needs to be rooted out.
marvel72
marvel72 - 1/9/2024, 3:16 PM
@Variant - But I said Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 was good because it wasn't like the crap in phases 4 and 5, it felt like it came from Phase 2 or 3,you know when the MCU was great.
marvel72
marvel72 - 1/9/2024, 3:41 PM
@AllsGood - Hey why isn't there any reviews on Rotten Tomatoes yet for Echo if its streaming today?

Disney must be worried about the reaction to it.
AllsGood
AllsGood - 1/9/2024, 3:54 PM
@marvel72 - Actually your right that's not good sign for any movie or show.
Variant
Variant - 1/9/2024, 5:19 PM
@marvel72 - You said it was good because it didn't feel like a Phase 4/5 film. This is backwards thinking. The quality of this film has nothing to do with the phase it's in. And we can't disassociate the good films of a Phase just to make it sound like a specific Phase is bad.

Phase 5 so far:

AM3 was mid
Secret Invasion was meh
The Marvels was good
GotG 3 was great
Loki S2 was great
Echo is TBD

Phase 5 is no different than any other Phase so far. Phase 4 was also pretty damn good. We can cherry pick and pretend like it wasn't but let's take a look.

Phase 4:

WandaVision - Great
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier - Good
Loki - Great
Black Widow - Good
What If... - Good
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings - Great
Eternals - Mid
Hawkeye - Good
Spider-Man: No Way Home - Great
Moon Knight - Great
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - Good
Ms. Marvel - Good
I am Groot - Good
Thor: Love and Thunder - Mid
She-Hulk - Mid
Werewolf by Night - Great
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - Great
Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special - Good

Great x7
Good x8
Mid x3

Without being dramatic about anything, this is where each project approximately lands. This isn't based on my opinion either. This is an aggregated dataset boiled down to 3 categories of quality.

If folks would just look at facts and not try and act their personal opinion is shared by everyone in the world, we could very easily determine that Phase 4 and 5 aren't NEARLY as bad as some of you try to make it sound.

Mid does NOT equal trash. But this seems to be the trend specifically with the MCU. Meanwhile DCEU already sank and Sony's live action bullshit is consistently awful.
Variant
Variant - 1/9/2024, 5:51 PM
@IronMan616 - I think it's a bit dismissive to call these characters cheap knockoffs tho. They're all from the comics. And yeah, some are less popular. But if all Marvel Studios did was the most popular we wouldn't get projects like GotG or Moon Knight.

Also, there is no "message first priority". That's just something Bob Iger brought up to say they needed to make sure WASN'T happening. I don't think at all within the ranks they decided this to be some kind of priority. I think SOME people perceive it that way. And I think it's rather dramatic. But either way, Marvel Studios is doing an incredible job listening to fans and making adjustments. Hence why we have a TV-MA show debuting tonight. But at the same time, they can't please everyone. So the fans also have to understand not every project is going to appeal to them nor should they maintain that expectation. If I'm buying Punisher comics I'm PROBABLY NOT also buying Ms. Marvel comics. But both characters are Marvel and exist in the same universe. So the issue isn't always just quality. I see all too often people confuse what doesn't appeal to them personally as bad quality. And that's just a selfish way of saying, "forget everyone else, just make what I personally want!"

dracula
dracula - 1/9/2024, 1:05 PM
@slickrickdesigns - since when?

most of them are failures but Guardians and spiderman did good money

Blue beetle: good movie but bombed even with a modest budget
Shazam 2 : bombe even with a modest budget
The Marvels : bombed with a massive budget but even if you cut the budget down, it would still bomb
Flash : big budget bomb, pretty much the same boat as The Marvels
Antman 3 : did slightly better than break even
Spiderman : Low budget and did great
Guardians 3 : only big budget movie to turn a profit

Aquaman could be successful, not as successful as the first but its up in the air right now

@dracula - Blue Beetle upon rewatch is about as good as power rangers (the tv show) and/or a Spanish soap opera. I cringe when I see abuela go all Jesse Ventura with the sparkly mini gun.
I wanted it to be good but it wasn’t. Would’ve been ok as a HBOMax special feature.
