Cabin Fever director Eli Roth's adaptation of Gearbox Software and 2K's Borderlands video game only started shooting last month, but the movie's official Twitter account has now revealed that production has already wrapped with a first proper look at Claptrap.

We got a silhouetted glimpse of the robot, who will be voiced by Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actor Jack Black, as part of a series of recent character teases, but we couldn't make out any details. This shot confirms that Claptrap's design will be practically identical to that of his video game counterpart.

Black Joins Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok) as Lilith, Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) as Tannis, Kevin Hart (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Roland, Ariana Greenblatt (Avengers: Infinity War) as Tiny Tina, Edgar Ramirez (Jungle Cruise) as Atlas, and Florian Munteanu (Creed) as Krieg.

Borderlands is a somewhat bizarre and very violent first-person, loot-based shooter which focuses on four “Vault Hunters” fending off local marauders while searching for advanced alien tech on a planet called Pandora. There have been three games released so far, and all have done very well.

Check out the official synopsis below.

“In the movie Lilith (Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas (Ramirez). Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Black), a persistently wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.”

This big-screen take is being developed at Lionsgate and will work off a script from Chernobyl screenwriter Craig Mazin. Roth will also produce along with Avi and Ari Arad through their Arad Productions banner.

"That's a wrap, with Jack Black's Claptrap" sounds like a line that'd be found in a Dr Suess book.

Its Eli Roth so even if it's bad it will be fun.

So what's so special about this game franchise that it attracted such big Hollywood names for this movie. I haven't played any borderlands games but it seems like a decent shooter. I'm assuming there's rich history in its lore if all these actors signed up for it.

@MarDCel - someone correct me if I'm wrong but my impression of the games (or at least the first one) is that it is basically a Guardians of the Galaxy sort of deal but before the Guardians were even a thing.

or rather, before the Guardians were mainstream I should say.

@MarDCel - @Spidey91 - well… yes and no.

It’s basically a massive rat race/meta heist game on an alien dystopian world, to find a massive Vault that’s said to have a bundle of loot (treasure).

The story is quite linear, but it’s the characters that make the game stand out. I’ve always said the perfect Borderlands movie has already been made - and it’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Basic plot that involves getting to checkpoint A to B, with a hell of a ride along the way, with multitude action, crazy characters and a shit tone of dead bodies - with of course a dash of comedy.

You should walk out of this movie feeling like you’ve just been eye and ear [frick]ed by a rollercoaster of a ride… (in the best way possible)

My only request is that they include the song. Otherwise, why bother?

I won't jump to excitement just yet. The Monster Hunter movie had spot on perfect monsters that looked 100% identical to their video game counterparts and that movie was terrible.

OT After and heartwarming start the latest episode of Superman & Lois delivers a gut punch that reminds you of the series finale of STAS. Hate that we have a another break but at least it won't be as long plus I gotta binge Godzilla Singular Point on Thursday which is also looking very good.

As soon as I saw the names Avi and Ari Arad as producers I dropped any expectations that this might be any good. I could be completely wrong and I hope I am, but those guys are an ill omen as far as I’m concerned.

Hoping the guy who wrote the script brought his A game.

@PewPewPew - If they are solely just financing the movie then it should be okay. Its when those two try and butt into production and change things that they become a huge problem. Avi Arad turns anything he touches into steaming garbage.
