CBS All Access debuted the first official trailer and key art for the third season of Star Trek: Discovery today during the virtual Star Trek Day celebration, and it reveals that the crew really has gone where no one has gone before... 938 years into the future!

The Season 2 finale saw the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery follow Commander Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) into a wormhole, and it's now been confirmed that they emerged in the year 3188 - for what sounds like it's a one-way trip.

Check out the trailer and poster below, and let us know if you plan on checking out Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 when it premieres on October 15.

After following Commander Burnham into the wormhole in the second season finale, season three of Star Trek: Discovery finds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery landing in an unknown future far from the home they once knew. Now living in a time filled with uncertainty, the U.S.S. Discovery crew, along with the help of some new friends, must work together to restore hope to the Federation.

Star Trek: Discovery also stars Doug Jones (Commander Saru), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Commander Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Ensign Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), and Michelle Yeoh (Philippa Georgiou). David Ajala (Cleveland “Book” Booker) and Blu del Barrio (Adira) were recently announced as new cast members.

So much about this just does not look like Star Trek, not even the poster

With how bad the reception to modern Trek has been, and the mediocre reception to Twilight Zone has been, CBS’s service is probably at the bottom of my list for streaming services to consider

@dracula - although most of the first season of Twilight Zone sucked (I enjoyed Blurryman, the meta finale episode), I thought season 2 was a pretty big improvement. I only found two of the episodes to be outright awful (8 and Ovation)

Is that the actor who played Machester Black in supergirl season 4

Ok. Finally this is moving FORWARD into new territory. I can watch this now and not feel the tug of Star Trek history dragging me out of the show.

@PerrinNation1 - It’s so baffling to me that they decided to set the first seasons before the original series...

Really got tired of this being Star Trek: The Burnham Show. For too many episodes it was all about Burnham, she was always the answer to any problem and presented as the neatly-packaged heart and soul of the Federation. Disco needs to get more 'ensemble', like later seasons of TNG and especially DS9, and allow other characters room to be more than an array of B-plots.

Doesn't have the awe and spirit of adventure Trek hasthe potential for. Didn't finish S2. Here they look like they're going to storm the Bastille and guillotine some people. One shot of the Enterprise from TNG still has more meaning than all this silly pageantry.

This should have been set in the future from the start. Having it set in the past added no value, other than to draw attention to all the glaring inconsistencies in the timeline. Just a pointless distraction with zero benefit.

@528491 - true. Now they have some actual discovering to do

Who gives a shit. Star Trek is dead. I thought for a second with Star Trek Beyond they were understanding it, but they got Kurtzman back to for TV and it went all to hell

@Dredd97 - Star Trek Beyond was a movie about why old Star Trek is boring and should die to make way for the new cool action Star Trek. So, I don't know what movie you were watching.

@BackwardGalaxy - Haha what? That is not true at all. I think you missed the point of that movie...

I am very divided on this one. Star Trek IS my franchise. I've watched everything that's been put out and loved it just because when it goes off track I kind of reframe it. I may not like all of "these" characters, but I LOVE the universe.

I think THE two Star Trek characters that stand out in this series are Saru and Pike.

Saru is such a cool character. Personality and character development have been fun to watch. I want to see where the character goes now. His character is one character on the show that is genuinely a Star Trek character to me.

I think Anson Mount kills it as Pike. Really need that show to get going already. Need to see him, Number 1 and Spock lead that crew.
