Dune: Part Two has achieved another impressive box office feat despite the fact that it faced stiff competition from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Dune: Part Two is still doing very well at the box office as its most recent receipts have been tallied and the film has crossed the $600 million worldwide mark.

Last weekend, the movie's global total sat at $574M, and over the course of another seven days and the Easter holiday, the film added another $52M, bringing its total to $626M, globally.

That's even more impressive, given the fact that Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire destroyed even the most optimistic estimates for its opening weekend.

Box office analysts now believe that the film will eclipse the $700M global mark before finishing its theatrical run.

Per The Hollywood ReporterDune: Part Two's break-even target for box office revenue was $500M.

Villeneuve has already said that he will decide whether to make a third film based on how well the sequel does at the box office.

However, now that the film's earnings are no longer an issue, more lately, Villeneuve has coyly stated that he won't make a third film if it doesn't surpass the second.

However, it would be extremely surprising if Villeneuve decided not to make a third movie and it's more probable that he is simply being 'theatrical' in an effort to drum up early interest for Dune: Messiah.

Dune: Part Two features an exceptional cast with Timothée Chalamet starring as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck and Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Also appearing in supporting roles are Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Dave Bautista as Glossu Rabban Harkonnen, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot Fenring, Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Charlotte Rampling as Gaius Helen Mohiam and Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

Dune: Part Two was released on March 01, 2024. The film was originally set for release on November 3, 2023 but was pushed back due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA Hollywood strike.

Dune: Part Two Official Synopsis
 Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Denis Villeneuve directed from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts based on Herbert’s novel.

As someone who felt the first one was boring and not fleshed out enough, I saw this in IMAX after the positive biz and absolutely loved it. Need a sequel asap

@Ha1frican - I honestly felt the opposite. The first film had better characterization, better political intrigue, the Fremen didn't feel one note...Stilgar was more akin to who he is in the book rather than the vehicle for the blind faith he becomes in part 2...let alone the sole source of levity in the film (i would argue part 2 makes Stilgar the Faramir of this franchise), the Harkonnen were actually formidable rather than being dealt with like hot butter in part 2. The action had tension, even if Arakeen was as much of a 30 second quick cut montage as the final battle in part 2 ( a battle that is essentially just CGI pornagraphy that is over before it begins and lacks and sense of staging or real tension) and it had no Chani so Zendaya wasn't single handedly preventing the film from elevating (she has one angey eyebrow look for 3 hours and genuinely just cannot act, i never bought her and Paul's relationship and its mostly on her inability as an actor rather than the screenplay itself).

Part 1 is simply better paced, more lore accurate, and the overall better film imo. Part 2 has great scenes tho and the throne room, and specifically when Paul fully embraces and engages the Fremen to weaponize and indoctrinate them for war....well those scenes are brilliant. I give Chalamet a ton of credit.

@Ha1frican - that is the reason I still haven't checked it out. I was so bored by the first I can't get pumped for this but I know I need to sit down and watch it!

@McMurdo - While I think I liked Part 2 a bit better than you, I do think think PArt 1 is the better film.

@Nomis929 - I liked Part 1 more as well. I think Part 2 is just fine. I would never watch Part 2 again, except maybe the last 15 minutes. It is a slog at two hours and 45 minutes.

That's Denis Villeneuve: plenty of stunning cinematography and feeling like you've been taken to another world ... but you're looking at your watch at least a few times. I liked Blade Runner 2049 more than both Dune movies.

@McMurdo - Part one's basic AF.

Not one interesting idea gets properly explored until part two. It's just a better developed version of star wars.

Even Denis says so...

@EZBeast - It definitely benefits from being the second half of the story. I rewatched the first one with the context of it being only part of the story and I enjoyed it a lot more which helped with the sequel. I knew it was a Part 1 the first time but it doesn’t really click until you watch them close together imo

@ALF9001 - genuinely felt the same about part 2. There's really one mega point throughout the movie, beware of the false prophet. Part 1 has far, FAR more nuance thematically.

@WEAPONXOXOXO - I guess these are good Box Office Number for Dune movies not even 700 million Worldwide when finished. The 2024 Box Office Numbers Far Behind 2023 Box Office Numbers Success. The combination of “Godzilla x Kong," “Dune Part Two” and “Ghostbusters" has put the year-to-date 6 percent behind 2023.

@Origame - Dune blockbuster movies are No different than any Marvel, DC, Mission Impossible, Fast and Furious, Star War's, Jurassic Park and Transformers movies.

Dune movies are not Special should be treated just like all the other Big Budget Blockbuster Movies.

@AllsGood - ok, who cares. Friggin AccountantIsGood over here. Speaking of 2023, Dune getting 700 mil and only one marvel property in 2023 surpassing it is sobering.

@WhatIfRickJames - BRING ME UP I RESPOND! Dune: Part Two will NEVER get close to Thor: Love and Thunder at the Box Office Numbers. The Dune movies will NEVER be close or in Star Wars League.

DOMESTIC = $343,256,830
INTERNATIONAL = $417,671,251

WORLDWIDE = $760,928,081

AvalonX
AvalonX - 4/1/2024, 5:06 PM
@AllsGood - Depends on the year. Thor was still riding on Phase 3 and Rag was a well received movie. It was a garbage movie, why did you choose 2022? Last year only one Marvel movie came close. Even then, in your sample time period, Eternals totally bombed. @WhatIfRickJames @Origame

Weekend Domestic
Box Office Worldwide

Nov 10, 2023 The Marvels $199,706,250
May 5, 2023 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 $845,468,744
Feb 17, 2023 Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quant… $463,635,303

You then say Star Wars, same issue. The last movie came out in 2019 and both ROSW and TLJ were mixed reception to say the least. Also, Solo totally bombed at $393,151,347. I'm not sure you can count on the Rey movie to rake in the cash like the sequel trilogy which relied on the legacy characters...

@AllsGood - A better comparison would be against the 2nd MCU movie (Iron Man 2 - $633 million WW) or even the 2nd Thor movie ($644 million WW). It’ll beat both.

Franchises grow over time. Dune is a new franchise. This movie beat the first one and will earn a good amount of profit.

Comparing it to the performance of a franchise that has been going for more than 15 years and has more than 30 movies is silly.

AllsGood - 4/1/2024, 5:17 PM
@AvalonX - NOT A GODD SIGN FOR DUNE MOVIES if you have to Compare both to MARVELS STUDIOS Worse Box Office Numbers. Why aren't you Comparing Dune movies to Avengers, Age Ultron, Infinity War and Endgame? Dume Movies can't even beat Marvel Studios Captain Marvels 1 billion box office success.

@AllsGood - Why are you comparing it to Marvel movies at all, I gave you all the 2023 numbers. 2 out of 3 it beat. I mean, Marvel has what like almost 30 movies? A movie has to hit 1B for it to be a success to you?

Age of Ultron? lol. Ok fine you idiot. How about Antman and Doctor Strange? How about Thor Dark World?Actually, how about ALL the MCU movies before the first Avengers? Who is cherry picking here, you or me?

So either you're full of sh!t about your mother is dead, in which case you're fabricating your mother dying in which case FU...

Or your mother is dead for real, and instead of prioritizing letting us know she's dead while we're making your mom jokes, you instead gotta play the corporate suck off game. In which case, FU. And if I were your mom I'd be in heaven talking about how disappointed I am in you.

Keeps bringing people in and it's out a month now. Probably getting to $700M. Legendary having a great time with the franchises WB sent to HBO Max last go round, proving they are cinematic spectacles.

Been meaning to rewatch this for some time, even though I prefer the first one, it's still great.
