It looks like Universal Pictures is moving quickly to deliver a brand-new Jurassic World movie in 2025, one with a whole new core cast.

The Hollywood Reporter unveiled the first information on a brand-new Jurassic World movie from Universal just a few weeks ago and there's already a major new update.

According to THR's report, David Koepp is presently penning the screenplay for the newest entry.  That should excite fans of the original film as Koepp wrote the original scripts for Jurassic Park (1993) and Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997).

Now, it's being reported that David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Bullet Train) is currently in talks to direct, according to Deadline.

Just that quickly, the seventh movie in the series moved from being a distant, far-off idea to hiring a writer and director in a matter of weeks, a solid indication that things are moving quickly on this project.

Deadline is also confirming that the film is aiming to hit theaters on July 2, 2025, just a little over a week before Warner Bros. reboots its DC Comics cinematic universe with Superman: Legacy which hits theaters on July 11, 2025.

With Koepp's script reportedly unfinished, many are doubtful that the newest Jurassic World movie will be able to arrive by its currently scheduled release date. Nevertheless, it is clear that Universal is moving quickly with the project.

It was also reaffirmed by Deadline that the new film will feature a brand new cast as neither Chris Pratt nor Bryce Dallas Howard are expected to return. The original Jurassic Park cast, who returned in the latest trilogy, are also said to be absent in this latest iteration.

With Leitch in the director's seat, Deadline reports he'll deliver something, "unlike anything the franchise has experienced with previous directors and would certainly give the series a fresh new look execs have wanted since the development of this film."

Franchise veterans Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are all attached as executive producers.

While critics weren't thrilled by the new Chris Pratt-led trilogy, each installment eclipsed the billion-dollar mark at the worldwide box office, indicating that audiences around the world are willing to show up for a mixture of old-school action and dinosaurs.

Interestingly enough, the project is not being described as a reboot which raises some interesting questions as 2022's Jurassic World Dominion ended with dinosaurs and humanity seemingly being forced to adapt to living side by side.

Fans of the original trilogy have called for the franchise to return to its roots, which typically featured a cast of characters being stranded on a deserted island with rampaging dinos.

With what appears to be the start of a whole new trilogy, it will be interesting to watch where Koepp and Leitch take it. Will they try to embrace the contemporary, human/dino coexistence of the most recent trilogy, or will they try to revive the horror/adventure essence of the first two films?

Ugh, shit. When news broke last week that David Koepp had an idea for a new Jurassic Park movie, my first thought was “NO! Dominion was terrible!” but then I let myself sleep on it and thought maybe, given the right people and time, they might be able to make a decent movie… and now they’re fast-tracking this shit for next year.

Actually enjoyed Atomic Blonde and Bullet Train, so I wouldn't mind him getting a stab at this franchise that definitely needs a shakeup.

I don't see how that's possible. Koepp coming back is great news but he just started writing the script! These companies are so desperate for money, then they wonder why rushing projects cause them to flop.. they don't get paid to think lol

A quick ranking would be 1,2,3,4,5,6. Maybe 3 and 4 are close enough to swap. Weird how that works though lol

@bobevanz - Law of diminshing returns.

I think the original is a good (not great) fun movie, but all the rest range from mediocre to terrible.

These latest rebooted ones are moronic and lazy imo.

What about a Turok movie? Can we get a Turok movie?

Damn, so preproduction should or has already started? That's roughly a year and a half for the whole filming and post production process. Hopefully it stalls just a bit or gets pushed a few weeks so SL can have some extra time to play in the sandbox.

First of the new ones was ok, second one was utter trash.

The series peaked early. No scene has matched the terror of the first T. Rex attack on the Ford Explorers in the first movie.

@NoAssemblyReqd - Unfortunately I experienced no terror during that scene, as I was too distracted trying to figure out how the damn monster was able to climb that wall.

@LSHF - But they don’t show there was a drop until late in the scene. Hmm…

(I know you were being facetious but there are plenty of valid visual explanations out there for how there was both flat land and a massive drop at the T. Rex paddock.)

Gotta keep those theme parks and merchandise trains rolling. Other than that, I can’t think of a genuine reason why we really need another Jurassic movie. And no doubt there will be some new super giant T-Rex variation as the big bad

Not only do these flicks suck, they are redundant retreads. If they bother with another one they need an actual idea.

Kinda hope it's just a spin-off or with a smaller scale, because I don't see how they can do a main movie coming out of a globetrotting, international espionage, animal trafficking, corporate conspiracy, food plague adventure

That’s a bad idea. One of the reasons the Dominion didn’t work was because most of the movie was set on another island of Dinosaurs when we should have been seeing them more in the outside. Aren’t we tired of seeing people trapped on islands filled with Dinosaurs? Don’t people want to see them co existing with human on the latter’s turf?

I really want the movie they teased dominion to be. The absolute insanity and horror of dinosaurs living amongst us.

That short they did of the family camping in the woods and being attacked was actually really good. I want more of that.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that we are going to push into the future, and the U.N. declared sanctuary is either some kind of tourist attraction or a kind of rehashed version of 3 where some thrill seeker or bear grylls type is filming something there and then gets stranded and there has to be a rescue mission, and then they rehash 2 and have someone of the rescue mission actually be some kind of eco terrorist or something , and we're basically gunna have the same usual shenanigans around that.

I think I just wrote Jurassic Park 7, ugh

The Jurassic movies should be small scale, claustrophobic, monster movies. The only movie I'd want to see is one set within a few months of the original, where a small team of mercenaries and scientists are sent to Isla Sorna to find out what happened to Nedry and retrieve the embryos. Make it Jaws like, make it feel like Joel and Ellie trying to get through the building full of clickers. No over-the-top guns, and no weird made-up hybrids.
