Toho's Godzilla Minus One roared its way into Japanese theaters earlier this month, and has been receiving rave reviews (you can check out some of the reactions here). Now, ahead of the movie's U.S. debut on December 1, the first full clip from the movie has been released online.

In this sneak peek, we see the King of the Monsters tearing through the waves as he chases down the crew of a seriously ill-equipped looking boat. A machine gun opens fire just as the clip ends, but something tells us that's not going to be quite enough to stop the legendary Kaiju.

During a recent interview, director Takashi Yamazaki revealed that he initially turned down the opportunity to helm the film because he didn't feel the technology required to bring his vision for Godzilla to life was available to his team.

“I had been approached several times but turned it down until my team’s technology was capable of expressing the Godzilla I had envisioned. After seeing Shin Godzilla, my motivation increased, and my technology evolved considerably. I was once again formally approached and decided to give it a try.”

We're very glad he waited, because the VFX work on display here is truly outstanding.

Check out the clip at the link below, and let us know if you plan on catching Minus One on the big screen.

Yamazaki previously outlined his original pitch for the project, while explaining that unusual title.

"Postwar Japan has lost everything. The film depicts an existence that gives unprecedented despair. The title Godzilla Minus One was created with this in mind. In order to depict this, the staff and I have worked together to create a setting where Godzilla looks as if "fear" itself is walking toward us, and where despair is piled on top of despair. I think this is the culmination of all the films I have made to date, and one that deserves to be "experienced" rather than "watched" in the theater. I hope you will experience the most terrifying Godzilla in the best possible environment."

Specific plot details are also still under wraps, but a (very) brief synopsis tells us that Godzilla: Minus One "sees an already devastated postwar Japan facing a new threat in the form of Godzilla." No sh*t!

The movie is set to debut in the U.K. and Ireland on December 15.

@EZBeast - There are no spoilers in that clip.

Best part about it is imagining Godzilla's stubby arms doggy paddling their hardest to stay afloat.

Movie looks great. Can't wait to see it.

@RoberTiger - Thank you! I'm notorious for ruining movies for myself because I OD on clips just before release...

Hollywood should learn from this. The budget of this movie is probably a fraction of a US Godzilla movie.

@X75 - it’s a fraction of ANY movie made in the U.S.

@BassMan - there's some dodgy VFX shots in the trailer but this clip in particular looks amazing.

@Gabimaru - For a budget of 15 Million and looking that good I think a few scenes can easily be forgiven

I like how they managed to blend all the effects so that Godzilla still ends up looking as practical as it can.

Maybe there are some animatronics in it.

A noble effort by the humans there but unfortunately that won't do it.
