Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp And Tom Cruise Being Looked At For Robocop Remake? Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp And Tom Cruise Being Looked At For Robocop Remake?

According to Clint over at Moviehole, the above trio are the actors MGM are looking at to star as Murphy, better known as Robocop..

While speaking about Tom Cruise's Tropic Thunder spin off, Clint over at Moviehole mentions that he, Keanu Reeves and Johnny Depp are the mega stars that MGM might be looking at to star as Alex Murphy in their Robocop remake.

He suggest that if the actors haven't been approached yet, it's only a matter of time before they will be. MGM have brought on Brazilian filmmaker Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) and screen writer Josh Zetumer to develop a new take on the story of good cop Alex Murphy, resurrected as the near unstoppable cyborg Robocop.

No plot details are known as of yet, and we are not sure exactly how different a take on the original this remake will be, but I can't imagine and of the gentlemen mentioned above relishing the idea of hiding their face under a helmet similar to the one seen in the original! But you never know of course.

Oh god please not Keanu. The guy can't act for shit. Just because the guy's a Robot doesn't mean he should be wooden.

I agree that Reeves is a piss poor actor, but of the three mentioned, he's the only one I could see even accepting the role...

My vote - Keanu. He acts like a robot already, so it wouldn't be a stretch for him. LMAO!

Please give it to Keanu. He's basically a robot in all his movies anyway.

Is Tom Cruise going to be mini Robocop? Dude is what, 5'6"? All praise the Lord Zenu!

Really guys? Murphy has a character arc in which he has to accept his humanity while gaining memories of his past life. He has to accept the fact that he can no longer be the man he was before, but he doesn't want to be a machine for a totalitarian conglomerate. The dude is in mental turmoil, wrapped in a metal case. The last time Keanu looked even mildly interested was in Bill and Ted.

@Dynamo-I think Keanu may actually be too busy completing the Bill and Ted journey to do this anyway.

All of them would suck as Robocop. Now I have liked some of these actors in movies so I am not saying that just to troll but none of them could play a family man police officer turned machine.

Don't forget A Scanner Darkly! That film was a benchmark in live-action animation and he was brilliant in it!
I must admit he has been terrible in many films recently but people do seem to forget that, given decent material, these actors can shine. A lot of it down to poor scriptwork etc... Look at The Day The Earth Stood Still (the remake of course) that film was terrible as it was, if a film is awful then the actors won't feel any drive to persist in their abilities to make an effort. If Robocop is a decent film then i'm sure he'd give it his fullest efforts.

Who cares if Keanu can't act? We're talking about Robocop, I mean, this role doesn't require an award winning performance. Tom Cruise is a terrible actor too, but I like Keanu better, a stiff actor sucks no doubt, but overacting is even worse

Why is Depp on the short list for every role out there? It's getting to be where he will be tapped to play Barberella next. The guys a hell of an actor but he's not suited for EVERY role!

As for Keeanu this role hits too close to home as he has been playing a stiff, mono-toned robot throughout his entire career. He should team-up with Ben Affleck to do "Mannequin 3: Mannequins in Manhattan".

Cruise has shown flashes of acting ability before, but clearly Jerry McGuire isn't turned into Robocop. He is better suited to flashy, upbeat roles.

The only actor I could see as a worse fit than these 3 would be Leonardo DiCaprio!

Michael C. Hall has been bandied about for Daredevil around these parts, but IMO would make a very good Alex Murphy.

How about none, I'd rather not even see this get remade as the original ones are classic. Hell, the series wasn't even that bad either.

.... all terrible choices, but if there was a gun to my head... Keanu. The other two would just be weird as Robocop.... Keanu is already a robo-something.

I hope to God this is just a rumor. These are all absolutely horrible choices. Every piece of news about this project makes it sound worse and worse. I am truly convinced there is a vendetta against the 80s in Hollywood and that their goal is to destroy every good film that came out in that decade.

All terrible choices for Robocop, IMO. They are all talented but too "soft" to play a tough, street smart cop who becomes a cybernetic one-man riot squad that spouts ultra-cool Schwarzenegger one liners...

Ray Stevenson has been a great character actor, as well as talented, bad @$$, and tall enough to be imposing.

(there's my next 2 cents)
