With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse now available on Digital, eagle-eyed fans have noticed just how different that version of the sequel is to the one we saw in theaters at the beginning of June.

When fans on social media started pointing out Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was difficult to hear in places, an improved version was sent out to theaters with a soundtrack which didn't overpower the dialogue quite so much.

However, there were a handful of other minor alterations, including different dialogue and new visual gags (during an exchange between Spider-Man 2099 and Lyla, for example). At the time, we thought those might just be for fun and confined to the odd scene or two as a means of increasing interest in repeat viewings.

Now Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is available on Digital platforms, a whole host of changes have been spotted!

We know work on the sequel continued right down to the wire, so many of these edits may well have been made to ensure the sequel better fits the vision of its creative team.

After all, we've heard producer Phil Lord ran a very tight ship in that respect!

From Miles G. Morales' haircut to the battle between Earth-1610's Spider-Man and Miguel O'Hara, these are surprisingly big changes to the movie most of us watched in theaters a couple of months ago. There's nothing too earth-shattering, but they're nonetheless significant.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse recently lost its 2024 release date and is now coming "TBD." With rumblings that the movie won't be released until 2026, we'll have to sustain ourselves by combing through this amazing sequel until Sony Pictures share an update.

I mean, as long as the theatrical unaltered version is still available for preservation purposes.

I get the desire to change and improve the work, but the original should still be viewable. It's like with the star wars special editions. Most probably would've been fine with them existing if they also gave us the originals.

The one time a stupid "list" would have been helpful lol what a fantastic movie. I hope the score wins, but also I need Ludwig to win for Oppenheimer, then again if Dune part 2 comes out, he wins lol

Not a wise idea honestly, it promotes the idea that the version you pay to see in cinema is not the finalized version - therefore you are seeing what people may consider the non-intended version or an inferior version.

We've seen this ideology rise with the arrival of directors cuts, alternative endings, etc... it's detracting from the idea of something being complete. Nowadays it does not seem to matter if you pump out poor quality material to cinemas, the streaming/digital version may be altered weeks, months or years later.
