Excitement for Kraven the Hunter has been somewhat muted after Morbius, but star Russell Crowe is assuring fans that the move is shaping up to be pretty good...according to the movie's director, at least!

Kraven the Hunter is one of Spider-Man's greatest foes, going so far as to gun down the web-slinger and bury him alive. He's a character who has always pushed Peter Parker to his limits and is an undeniably fearsome villain, so it makes perfect sense to portray him as an anti-hero in a solo movie. Or not.

Like it or not, that's what Sony Pictures has planned in Kraven the Hunter, though there's no denying that the studio has managed to assemble an impressive cast.

Avengers: Age of Ultron star Aaron Taylor-Johnson will play the title character and Russell Crowe is expected to take on the role of Nikolai Kravinoff, the father of the eponymous Spider-Man villain. Now, the latter has shared his thoughts on the Marvel project in an interview with CBR.

"I've talked to J.C. Chandor, the director, he's really excited about what he's got in front of him [and] really excited about the way people will receive it," the actor teased. "I think I can sort of pass on...one of the things he said, that it's, it's just an unexpectedly dark world."

Morbius also took place in a "dark" corner of Sony's Marvel Universe, as did Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, for that matter. Unfortunately, those movies proved to be more goofy than serious and were met with negative reviews.

There's always a chance Kraven the Hunter will turn things around, of course, though we may be in trouble if Morbius and The Vulture show up in a post-credits scene to recruit the hunter to their "team."

Directed by J.C Chandor from a screenplay by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk, the movie's cast also includes Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, and Levi Miller.

Kraven the Hunter is set to be released in theaters on October 6, later this year.

I completely forget this movie exists, and the fact it's actually coming out this year. If it's another Morbius, then Sony gotta shut down every single Spidey villain spinoff idea that's not Venom 3.

@KWilly - wait, this year already? Thought it was January next year, or is that the highly anticipated Madame Web movie?

@OrgasmicPotatoe - Nah, Venom is their bread and butter. Even if you don't like it, it's an established box office success.

Not to mention the third one will be the last one anyway.

@KWilly - Na even Venom 3 gotta go!

I dunno what's wrong with Sony, but they keep making Spin offs without the main man himself. Surely they're allowed to use Tobey's or Garfield's spider-man still?

Was discussing this in another thread, but they can surely bring back Tobey and Kirstin to expand their universe. He's old enough to play dad to a teenage Mayday and use them to launch her solo movie as a franchise and incorporate all those other useless villains in movies. Give us Spider-Girl

@KWilly - Oh, I know full well they're not gonna can it because the last two made money. They're still very lackluster, and I'd rather they try and do something well with their resources instead.

Just wishful thinking, I know.

Oh great, another ''dark'' cbm. What's that even supposed to mean?

Anyway, I actually look forward to this movie. Mainly because of ATJ and Crowe though, and Kraven (unlike Morbius or Venom) can actually carry a movie I think.

Also, Crowe is doing press for a movie called The Pope's Exorcist? Sounds intriguing.

I could care less about this movie, the writers and director are mid, it isn't tied to a greater scheme of Spidey, and if I can recall they're changing his origin? Screw this movie

It may suck but I still might want to see it. If it gets good reviews I may see it in the cinema or if it gets bad reviews I will either wait for the Blu Ray or wait for it to come on Now TV.

What a waste of talented actors in what will surely be a dumpster fire. I finally saw Morbius on Netflix... and i want that 1.5hrs of my life back.

Kraven is one of my absolute favorite Spider-Man villains. And this looks and sounds like pure trash.

Not that Garfield is jumping to come back, but it would be great if these Morbius/Kraven/Venom movies took place in the ASM universe and we're building to Garfield's Spider-Man just eviscerating all of these chuds. Because if nothing else, Sony has done a really good job of making me want to see these characters get beat to a pulp.

What bothers me is that it’s a Kraven movie and we don’t know who he’s hunting. Could be a good option for a Morbius, Vulture or Venom cameo but I’m afraid it won’t be that
