Newly revealed Spider-Man: No Way Home concept art reveals some of the ideas Marvel Studios explored in order to deliver a slightly more comic-accurate version of the MCU's Green Goblin! Check them out...

Doctor Octopus was put front and centre in Spider-Man: No Way Home's marketing campaign, but it was the Green Goblin who soon revealed himself as the threequel's true big bad.

The MCU doesn't have a Norman Osborn, but when the Variant we first met in 2002's Spider-Man found his way to Earth-616, he wasted no time in decimating Peter Parker's life. However, he did so minus the costume he once wore to battle Tobey Maguire's wall-crawler.

After Norman smashed his mask/helmet, the Green Goblin kept most of his suit but made a few enhancements and donned a purple hood as a way of paying homage to his comic book counterpart.

Cut sequences would have shown Norman using the Department of Damage Control's confiscated Stark Industries technology to improve his armour, while those goggles were supposed to be Doc Ock's. Now, newly released concept art reveals a somewhat more sinister take on the iconic baddie.

As you can see, one version of the Goblin would have featured him using pieces of his mask in a way that would have given us the best of both worlds: the Green Goblin's trademark helmet and Willem Dafoe's incredible facial experiences.

Another take sees Norman decked out in armour worn by Thor: The Dark World's Dark Elves. Both of these designs work spectacularly but, in fairness, so did the one we ultimately saw in the movie's final cut.

"Spider-Man: No Way Home is the greatest Marvel movie ever made. Period," we said way back in 2021"As epic as it is emotional, this is not only a perfect blockbuster, but Spider-Man’s wildest, funniest, and most awe-inspiring adventure yet. It's a Marvel masterpiece."

Take a closer look at this newly revealed concept art below.

Ears are too far forward on both of these. Honestly Green Goblin was underutilized in No Way Home and it's disappointing we did not have more confrontations between him and the Spider-men.

@Scarilian - We got three, two of which were arguably way more impactful than any of Goblin and OG Peter’s interactions in the original

@PlusUltra -
It was nice seeing Norman Vs Peter, but it's not the same as the Green Goblin Vs Spider-man. We never really saw them get to demonstrate a majority of their skills or see them explored with civilians around, which Goblin would definitely exploit.

I'd have liked to see Spider-man tackle a situation in No Way Home where he has to save people from the Green Goblin while also fighting him, kinda like the Bridge scene but for Goblin and more focused on seeing Spider-man be a hero and the public potentially changing their views on Spider-man.

Then when the daily bugle video appears at the end before the final battle, we see the opinions of the population are more in favor of Spider-man

What we got was perfect and no detachable goblin ears is gonna take away from that

@PlusUltra - Agree. William Dafoe's acting is so good that he could've played this role without a costume or anything that looks similar to the comics.

Meh. I prefer what we got.

@ModHaterSLADE - really though. His crazy face was perfect. The unhinged look would not be shown with him wearing goggles and we needed to see him unhinged.

@Mrtoke - Exactly.

He looked awesome on the bridge. His costume looked more sleek and menacing with the black accents. I feel like he just needed the helmet for at least one portion of the final battle.

Love the second suit!!
I think the ears were the only thing missing as well.

Honestly, with more menacing eyes, something like the Dark Elf armor-look wouldn't be the worst way to bring a more comic-accurate Goblin to live-action.

Dafoe gave such a great performance, a more comic-accurate suit might have done him a disservice. His face was so much more expressive and goblin-y than any sort of mask would have been

"Spider-Man: No Way Home is the greatest Marvel movie ever made. Period"

Sure if you have piss poor taste in film. We literally had a moronic anti Dr Strange and an easy bake oven that literally solves villainy. Movie was a letdown outside of Tobey and Garfield.

@McMurdo - Agreed, I would have much preferred new MCU takes on Green Goblin and Doc Ock rather than just bringing back the versions from the Raimi films.

@McMurdo - Bingo! other than the cameos this movie was ass! this guy cant direct a good Spiderman movie to save his life.

Love how it ties into the Dark Elves. I may have to buy this book. Lots of good stuff. Like the Across the Spiderverse one.

The onscreen version was just fine.

Anyone got any Zack Snyder Crayola sketches of a random guy on the street who was going to be Mr Terrific 17 movies from now they can post?

So close…to presenting shit. Why do twitter post by fans get any publicity. Most times their opinions are bottom of the barrel or dripping with hyperbole.

That second design with the stolen Dark Elf armour actually looks pretty great

I don't get the need to reinvent the wheel for the goblin suit. The whole point of this film was to celebrate the live action spiderman franchises. So why not just let him keep his main look from those movies? We only got that for like one shot.

They kept doc ock, sandman (albeit always in sand mode instead of human), and lizard the same. And sure, they changed electro, but that character is already a whole can of worms both in terms of the comics and the movie they're pulling him from. But green goblin from the raimi films is classic.
