Ahead of the sequel's release this week, Insomniac Games has released a launch trailer for Spider-Man 2 which unleashes Venom and teases the villain's identity. We also see Sandman take aim at the heroes!

We're just a few short days away from Spider-Man 2 swinging into stores and Insomniac Games and PlayStation have shared an epic new launch trailer (via GameFragger.com) for the long-awaited sequel.

There's heaps of new cinematic footage to be found here, including confirmation that Sandman is set to be among the sinister villains Peter Parker and Miles Morales square off with (and, just like in Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man: No Way Home, he'll be a giant-sized threat). We also see more of The Lizard, but it’s Venom who is the main focus.

While it’s widely believed that Harry Osborn will don the alien symbiote in place of Eddie Brock (who has been mentioned in the previous games but never shown up), this latest sneak peek appears to be doing its best to convince us that Peter Parker breaks bad and unleashes his venomous side.

Saying About The Long-Awaited PlayStation Sequel!

We wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case for at least part of Spider-Man 2, but short of Insomniac throwing us a major curveball, we’re expecting Peter and Miles to be pushed to their limits by the iconic villain in the later stages of the game.

Interestingly, it sounds like the alien suit initially chooses Peter as its host, something Norman Osborn doesn’t seem at all happy about. The expectation is that this second instalment will set the stage for him to suit up as Green Goblin in an eventual Spider-Man 3

Watch the epic new launch trailer for Spider-Man 2 below.

"Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales face the ultimate test of strength inside and outside the mask as they fight to save the city, each other, and the ones they love," reads the game's synopsis, "from the monstrous Venom and the dangerous new symbiote threat."

"Explore an expansive Marvel's New York with faster web-swinging and the all-new Web Wings, quickly switching between Peter and Miles to experience different stories, epic new abilities and high-tech gear."

"Wield Peter's symbiote abilities and Miles' explosive bio-electric powers in battle against new and iconic Marvel Super Villains," it continues, "including an original take on a symbiote-infused Venom, the ruthless Kraven the Hunter, the volatile Lizard, and more from the Marvel Rogues' Gallery."

Spider-Man 2 swings into stores on October 20. Will you be picking it up? As always, let us know your thoughts on that, and what you see here, in the comments section.

@UniqNo - It much better and Peter’s way more emotive. After playing the remaster, going back to the old face model doesn’t look nowhere near as good.

@FireandBlood - Maybe, but in terms of age, he now looks the same age as Miles, rather than the older, mentor type he looked like in the original.

That being said though, i didn't play the remaster or this one yet, so maybe you're right.

@UniqNo - He’s only meant to be early/mid twenties though. The previous face model didn’t reflect that at all. You’ll see when you boot up the new one, the new face model is way better 👌

@UniqNo - I think the new game fixes the age issue. Peter looks more appropriate age wise (or at least they de aged miles).

@Origame - Maybe, we'll see. Miles looks a bit older compared to his previous game and the original though, but i could be wrong. I just hope they don't frick up Venom. They're saying it's not Eddie, but hopefully that doesn't mean he doesn't come into the picture eventually. Likely case is that it's Harry though.

@UniqNo - idk. The hair makes him seem younger to me.

Either way, from what we saw in the story trailer it looks like Peter is older looking than miles here at least.

And yeah, I hope so. I'm guessing the symbiote escapes and ends up with Eddie, and that leads into a side story with Eddie in the third game or a spin off game.

From the looks of it, I think kraven might be venom this time. That hand looks too big for any other character.

@UniqNo -
I got attached to the previous design of the characters and having the redesigns has lost that initial connection I had with them, I just can't connect with these designs.

The story does not seem as strong as the first game and the structure fights force you to switch between Peter and Miles which I think makes it difficult to really experience the journey as strongly. Imagine fighting a boss, having them taunt you, then you switch to another character and fight the boss also. The boss mocking the character you were playing holds less weight now as you aren't playing that character anymore. Also, quick time events... urgh.

@Scarilian - Its my biggest turn off in games. I hate character switching.

@AvalonX -
I'm willing to accept it to explore different scenes, but when those characters are interacting, switching between them can take you out the focus on how one character is feeling/acting. One of the reasons the Peter aspect hit so hard in the first game was primarily because we spent the majority of the game as Peter and we did not have the final battle randomly interrupted by switching to Miles or MJ - sadly with this game, that's exactly what happens.

In the case of Miles and Spider-man, the actions between the two have similar game-play as it is so it's difficult to differentiate between them.
