Love you, Tom.
But this one will NEVER spark joy for us, lol.

As someone who has never seen Smallville, this explanation makes sense to me after only seeing Welling's Clark in Crisis

I was a longtime Smallville fan and viewer. Mixed opinions on it TBH, like many I'd really loved to have seen a full body, clear shot of Welling in the suit in the finale. However he has utterly consistent from day one that he took on the show because it wasn't about Superman - it was about Clark Kent (pre-Superman), and I have to admit a begrudging and reluctant respect that he's still sticking to his convictions 8yrs after it ended. Many would have just taken the money, put on the suit and signed up for much more than a cameo in Crisis - there was certainly enough demand for it judging by online reactions when he was announced.

@elgaz - The problem is that it wasn't. He worse clothes in Superman's colours. He fought Doomsday. He was in a made up little Justice League with Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg and Green Arrow. He was Superman in every way except the costume, which they also teased a bunch of times. There was a payoff we all deserved, but didn't get. That sucked.

@elgaz - HOWEVER, the Red Blue Blur/The Blur, was basically him as Superman.😂 So as a Superman fan, you just wish the showed would've just owned it at some point. Especially since Tom Welling was so good in the role. And the last few seasons of Smallville, they ended up having to tell Superman stories anyway.😂

@hainesy - YES they deliberately teased him putting on the suit many times in the final 4 seasons ... making you think it was FINALLY going to happen and HE and the show runners knew there as a huge following for him to do it.

Wow, he really hates the tights. Its always some excuse to not wear them.

It surprises me that he's STILL so adamant that he'll never wear the suit even after 100s of fans asking him about it over the years.

I'd still like to see Clark back at some point, suit or no suit.

@Nightwing1015 - I honestly think his cameo in Crisis felt truer to the feel of Smallville. If we had seen him in the suit, it may have been cool, but I think seeing him in a similar environment and in similar clothing as we had been used to seeing him made it feel more nostalgic.

Id still say they should have leaned into it. Have his scene start with him walking in doing up his shirt and putting on him glasses. They show up to talk to him, realise he isn’t the Superman they are looking for then leave. Then the news shows something happening so he disappears off screen after taking off his glasses. He’s never putting on the suit so at least have fun with it

@Twenty23Three - People would’ve been pissed but I’d have loved this.

@Twenty23Three - considering this version seemed more focused on living a normal life despite his superhuman origins, this seems like the most logical path to go down for concluding everything. And i love how lex has become Clark's nemesis purely because of his powers and clark got the leg up on that confrontation by moving on beyond his powers.

Respectively disagree Mr. Welling but I do appreciate his steadfastness in what he believes.

Smallville was great back in the day, by today’s standards it still fits w/ the Arrowverse.. that said, Tom needed to suit up at least once, just to quench the thirst of the fans.

Big ball drop and disappointment to hear that he remains so adamant against it. We’re talking a few seconds in a scene, not an entire movie or episode. He’s great as Clark, we’re left to imagine what he could have done as the man himself..
