In one of the most shocking announcements, Marvel Studios announced Natalie Portman will be joining Chris Hemsworth & Tessa Thompson in Thor: Love and Thunder where she'll play the Mighty Thor.

After it was reported earlier this week that Taika Waititi would be returning to write and direct Thor 4, Marvel Studios made the film official tonight and revealed its official title: Thor: Love and Thunder.

The sequel will be headlined by founding Avenger Chris Hemsworth, who reprises his all-mighty role as the God of Thunder, and he'll be joined by his fan-favorite co-star Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, the King of New Asgard.

While Waititi emphasized that neither actor has read the script yet (since it likely hasn't been completed yet), Thompson did say she's hoping Valkyrie will be seeking out her Queen whenever the film does pick up, confirming the hero's status as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first LGBTQ character.

To close out their Thor presentation, Marvel Studios revealed the sequel would also introduce the Mighty Lady Thor and she'll be played by none other than Natalie Portman, who returns to the franchise after sitting out the last installment (and seemingly swearing off the MCU for life). Further details remain under wraps, but Portman did show up on stage and got her chance to wield Thor's hammer, which was met with much applause from the audience.

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER

Feige talked about the next Thor film, “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which will be the fourth feature film in the “Thor” franchise. It was revealed that Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, will become the Mighty Thor, the goddess of Thunder.

Director Taika Waititi, Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman all came on stage for the presentation, eliciting a wild response from the Hall H audience who are looking forward to the film’s November 5, 2021 debut in theaters.

They wasted Portman twice already, so it's nice to see them finally use her properly. Great actress.

@tmp3 - I wonder what devilish shit marvel has planned for this movie, pretty sure they wouldn't put her in as Thor unless it blows us away.

@JonC - Here is my crazy theory. The Grandmaster meets The Enchantress who is a disgraced Asgardian whom was banished away by Loki/Odin while he was ruling Asgard.

The Grandmaster being upset at Thor unites with the Enchantress Amora to capture and torture Thor. Amora has a crazy spell that turns Thor human and turns Jane into Thor.

Thor gets transported back to Sakaar and Jane and Valkyrie unite to rescue him before Beta Ray Bill the new Sakaar champion kills human Thor.

@SonOfAGif - This is the only story for which I'd care to see the film. Hate Lady Thor with a burning passion. Sadly, I doubt this heavily. Portman has not had a good film in a bit. Annihilation, while good, did horribly and she's seeking a stable franchise. Plus, seeing Thor lose his powers once again would be laughable and would completely reverse his entire arc thus far. Really wish they would've gone all in and done Gorr The God Butcherer.

@tmp3 - Her character was written poorly. There was not much for her to do. I'll give you that. But she clearly did not try in either of the films.

Also...
Speaking to THR after the presentation, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that Ali called the studio after winning the Oscar for his work Green Book. "When Marhershala calls, you answer," he said. At the meeting, Ali came right out and said that he wanted to do Blade. That was that.

Absolute power move from Ali.

Natalie Portman is a great actress. Sure she hasn't been the best in MCU films but I think with motivation and a good team, she can be great.

Taika Waititi will make her give a good performance.

Interested to see how they go about Lady Thor in this one. Same with the Valkyrie storyline.

...and Portman is still fine as hell.

@TyrantBossMedia - Yeah, Jane Thor is not a one and done type of role. I'd be surprised to know if she plans on sticking with this after her history with Marvel. I wonder if they're going with a "I spent the day as Thor" type of story with movie.

fantastic. The jason Aaron run, through and through, is god tier. Jane!thor is gonna be awesome, and the first openly lgbt lead character in the MCU is a huge deal.

@Vocloz - she's not openly lgbt though. She has to actually be open about that. This is like how they kept saying "beauty and the beast has the first openly gay character in a disney movie" and all he does is seem kinda more happy when dancing with a guy.
Vocloz
Vocloz - 7/21/2019, 9:21 AM
@Origame - Kevin said that’s a part of her character in a post slate reveal interview. Tessa, on stage, said Valkyrie is looking for her queen in Thor 4. Valkyrie is canon bi in the comics. They’re def doing this, making her OPENLY the first, and that’s fantastic. More representation! Love it.

@Vocloz - the movie isnt even out yet. She isnt open until the character herself actually says something about it. And considering how china reacts to gay characters in fiction as well as how disney has portrayed them its very easy to see how her "search for a queen" is gonna be stated in movie as "searching for someone to share a throne with".

Also i know she's bi in the comics. That means nothing here.
