I am totally against race swapping any character, especially heroes and villains but this one,I want the usual suspects accept this one.

Izaizaiza - 12/16/2023, 7:02 PM
@marvel72 - let's be real, race swapping matters a lot for some characters, and not at all for others. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Origame
Origame - 12/16/2023, 7:38 PM
@Izaizaiza - yeah, we know then it matters and doesn't to you.

If it's a race swap of a white character, it doesn't matter.

If it's a race swap of a minority, it does 🤣
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/16/2023, 7:42 PM
@Origame - Actually, that's false. Examples of characters where their race is important: Captain America or Black panther. Their place in society, and how their racial identity relates to that (whether real or fictional societies) are integral to the character. Ms. Marvel is another one, as is John Walker.

An example of a character where it doesn't really matter would be Wonder Man. He's a character few people know about, and even fewer care about. There's nothing about that characters defining characteristics that relate them to a racial identity.
Origame
Origame - 12/16/2023, 8:03 PM
@Izaizaiza - dude, I know you're lying based on our previous conversations.

And your wonder man example doesn't even make sense based on the argument you gave. Your previous points are when it matters from a character perspective. But you just said wonder man isn't a known character.
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/16/2023, 8:54 PM
@Origame - You know, it's a funny thing when you have to obviously and openly mischaracterize the person you're debating because you just don't have any arguments for the points made.

Wonder Man isn't a well-known, or especially popular character. If they ever make a movie or show about him, that will be the first introduction for the majority of the general audience. His defining characteristics have nothing to do with race.
Mrnorth1921
Mrnorth1921 - 12/16/2023, 9:32 PM
@Izaizaiza - I agree. But at the same time I am bummed that they are changing sentry so much. But I have to remember he isn’t that popular. It sucks, but he is a minor character.
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 12/16/2023, 9:38 PM
@Izaizaiza - it matters when they make the character look nothing like their comic book counterpart for idealogical reasons.
Origame
Origame - 12/16/2023, 10:06 PM
@Izaizaiza - well I'm not mischaracterizing you. I've spoken to you before, and that's the case. And what do you mean I'm not addressing your points? The whole point is your views on the subject.

My position is if it's big enough to adapt it's big enough that the race is important and shouldn't change. You don't know the importance of the race, even if you think you do.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 12/17/2023, 4:25 AM
@Izaizaiza - Of all the characters you mentioned I think Black Panther is really the only one that I would say shouldn't be race-swapped.
Race isn't important to like 98% of characters. It can become important, once the race has been settled on for whatever version you're doing, but it's not important that be any particular race.

Black Panther and the Wakandanas should probably be black though. Just saying.

Blade, Captain America, Ms Marvel, Superman, Spider-Man, etc... doesn't matter.

If they cast a white Bishop in X-Men there would be an uproar, but I wouldn't join in because it's not really important to his character.
marvel72
marvel72 - 12/17/2023, 8:20 AM
@Mrnorth1921 - I Iove Sentry, especially when he was in The Dark Avengers and during World War Hulk.
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/17/2023, 8:55 AM
@Mrnorth1921 - I agree Sentry is a minor character, but I haven't read about how much they're changing him. What's going on with that character?
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/17/2023, 8:58 AM
@ObserverIO - I actually agree about Bishop. Captain America, I think is important. An idealistic white man in 1940 making that sacrifice because he believes in his country is a VERY different thing than a black, Latino or Asian man in 1940 making that sacrifice for the United States. Don't get me wrong, I think age could be really interesting. A Japanese-American becoming Captain America could be a great story... but it is very different character?
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/17/2023, 9:00 AM
@Ryguy88 - It depends on who the character is and how interesting the ideological reasons are. If you take it, nothing character that nobody knew about, and change them up, it could make for a more interesting character. Also depends on what you mean by ideological reasons
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/17/2023, 9:02 AM
@Origame - Honestly, I haven't seen any evidence that you want to contribute in an interesting or thoughtful way to this conversation. If you look at some of the other comments here, and have something to add that isn't just insecure white male knee jerk reaction, feel free to add it, but I'm not going to waste my time with you.
Origame
Origame - 12/17/2023, 9:18 AM
@Izaizaiza - dude, outside of pointing out you're lying I'm saying exactly what @Ryguy88 is saying.

And you even proved my point by saying it depends on the ideology. This is agenda driven for you.

Also, you don't know my race as I've never stated it here.
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/17/2023, 10:06 AM
@Origame - How is sharing my opinion "lying"?

I didn't say it depends on ideology. I said it depends on what Ryguy means by "ideological reasons". For example, is trying to make a boring, forgettable character interesting by making them socially relevant "ideological"? I think if a film maker is simply pushing a political position without presenting interesting questions, it's a very boring thing.

That's true. You could be a Chinese woman doing an AMAZING fragile white guy impersonation 🙂
Origame
Origame - 12/17/2023, 10:18 AM
@Izaizaiza - 1) it is when said opinion is objectively different than before. You're not even saying you changed your mind.

2) that is ideological if the idea is they're socially relevant because of superficial details like skin color.

3) or maybe I just see through your bs 🤣
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 12/17/2023, 2:07 PM
@Izaizaiza - idealogical as in the basing the character traits on the ideals of the writer.
Mrnorth1921
Mrnorth1921 - 12/17/2023, 3:04 PM
@Izaizaiza - casting Steven Yeun for him.
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/17/2023, 5:36 PM
@Ryguy88 - Yeah, I agree with that. Pushing a political agenda in a narrative is boring. Using a political character to pose interesting questions or create interesting conflict can be great.
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/17/2023, 5:38 PM
@Origame - 1. My opinion didn't change. You just assume everyone is as simple a thinker as you are.

2. Skin color should be socially insignificant, but obviously it isn't, and hasn't been the case in the history of the United States.

I doubt you can even see your dick in your hands when you take a piss. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 12/17/2023, 5:40 PM
@Mrnorth1921 - Yeah?! Is that confirmed? Have they said what film? I don't like it, but I'll reserve judgment at this point.
