SUPERMAN & LOIS Season 3 Ends On Devastating Cliffhanger Ahead Of S4 Cast Departures - SPOILERS SUPERMAN & LOIS Season 3 Ends On Devastating Cliffhanger Ahead Of S4 Cast Departures - SPOILERS

Hot on the heels of that blockbuster Superman: Legacy casting, Superman & Lois brought its third season to an epic close as the Man of Steel squared off against his most dangerous adversary yet...

Just a few hours after Superman: Legacy director James Gunn formally announced David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as his new big-screen Clark Kent and Lois Lane, respectively, The CW's Superman & Lois brought its third season to a close with a Doomsday-level twist - by actually introducing DOOMSDAY - that will surely have fans counting down the days until season four rolls around in 2024 or 2025.

Yes, two seasons after pulling a bait-and-switch and introducing Bizarro (Tyler Hoechlin) instead of Doomsday, the show subverted expectations yet again by actually turning the Bizarro Superman into the devastating DC Comics villain Doomsday.

After resurfacing during the closing moments of last week's penultimate hour, Lex Luthor managed to capture the resurrected Bizarro and repeatedly killed him in an effort to increase his power to an unprecedented level before unleashing him on the world, and directly at our beloved Man of Steel.

The pair exchanged earth-shattering blows before Clark realized the villain couldn't be killed and he managed to lure him all the way up to the moon, where the closing shot saw Superman and Doomsday charging at one another at top speed, setting the stage for a brutal, no holds barred, duel to the death we won't learn the victor of until sometime next year, if not 2025.

Tonight's finale also marked the final series regular appearances of Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang), Dylan Walsh (Sam Lane), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cortez), Inde Navarrette (Sarah Cortez), Wolé Parks (John Henry Irons), Tayler Buck (Natalie Irons), and Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy Beppo).

Now, while the season four cost-cutting measures don't necessarily mean this will be the last we see of the characters as many, if not all, could potentially return in a reduced capacity next season, although since there's no guarantee, the writers did seem to resolve every departing party's storyline in a relatively satisfying manner, while leaving the door open for potential returns in the fourth and presumably final season before the DCU launches in 2025.

First up, John Henry and Lana finally sealed the deal and got together, although the future status of their relationship remains to be determined as Sam also offered John Henry a full-time position at the DOD, which would require John and Natalie to relocate to Metropolis. Meanwhile, Jordan apologized to Sarah for being a dick the past few months and the pair decided to part ways amicably, agreeing that it was too soon for them to be friends. Finally, Kyle and Chrissy find out they were going to be parents and received support from Lana, so there were smiles all around.

As for what any of this means for season four, namely that Superman/Doomsday cliffhanger, it seems probable that some version of the "Death of Superman" storyline will be adapted next season, although we can't imagine they'll keep Tyler Hoechlin sidelined for long, if at all, so this could also have a fairly quick resolution at the top of season four. Michael Cudlitz has been upped to series regular, so Lex Luthor will indeed be the big bad, and knowing this show, there's probably more than a few surprises in store as well, despite a reduced budget, so stay tuned!

Thank you CW for season 4

if this was the end, it would be the worst cliffhanger to leave a show on in the history of shows ended on cliffhangers

@dracula - It would be as bad as how Alf ended.

@dracula - agreed. Although I have an idea where this is going, it still would've sucked.

I'm kinda thinking they knew season 4 was happening, so they cut it off here to build from next season. If no, they should've made 2 more episodes and resolved it in that.

I’m genuinely surprised they would allow a season 4 at this point regardless of the quality of the show given how determined they seem to clear the slate.

@Oberlin4Prez - Same. Thought for sure it'd get canceled cuz of money. Guess the CW found a couple extra bucks under their car seat

@KWilly - Fun Fact: That's where the CW had always funded their projects.

@KWilly - The new owners think they can reach profitability with just acquisitions that are failing in an epic way ratings wise. Everything that used to air before that was scripted and original from The CW laps around the new stuff they've brought, including this. But the sole act of renewing this goes against their new motto after claiming "superhero shows on The CW had their time".

They sure dislike diversity and females since the majority of the cast members that were slashed were mostly female and of color.

either clark is going to die and stay dead for a few episodes or jordan is going to help and get killed and come back after a few episodes

@dracula - Clark going to die and either come back the same episode or the next episode.

@dracula - Or he is going to die and Jon Snow us about how he is really dead for several episodes.

@dracula - Season four should open with Superman's funeral and a Justice League cameo.

@dracula - Feels like him dying would've been a stronger place to end the season than that dumb cliffhanger.
dracula
dracula - 6/28/2023, 12:55 PM
@Repian - the show said superman is this earth’s only hero

Could see it opening on Sam’s funeral (considering the actor said no to a recurring role). Maybe ar first play it off as Clark’s.

Then maybe cut back to the fight with Doomsday

Maybe clark isnt confirmed dead but him and doomsday disappeared

Feels like doing a full on death would take up too much time in this shorter and possibly final season

Sounds interesting, I gotta catch up on this show. The first season was pretty decent, but fell off in season 2. I heard the last season was pretty good tho

So this doomsday is supposedly invulnerable obviously like Superman, but he gets impaled easily on top of a building while surviving superman’s punches. Jesus the people writing this shit should really think things through better, very lazy writing.

@John75 - He regains consciousness and lifts himself off the needle after breaking it off and returning to Superman not even a minute later.

John75 - 6/28/2023, 12:37 AM
@kg8817 - but it shouldn’t even pierce his hide. It should just crumple around him like paper mache no matter how much force he’s thrown on to it. It would be like us thrown onto cotton wool.
WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 6/28/2023, 6:52 AM
@John75 - Reminds me a lot of the joke in the beginning of GOTG 2 when Drax jumps into the monster's mouth cause he couldn't cut it from the outside, thinking he could cut it from the inside, and Gamora and Quill just roll their eyes at his strategy lol.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 6/28/2023, 11:51 AM
@John75 - It shouldn't? I'm pretty sure in season 2 they developed that Bizarro's addiction to X kryptonite weakened his body somehow.

Krypton's Doomsday was better but I like this one.
NinnesMBC

I would argue that more than Doomsday what they did here was closer to the character of Superdoom, an iteration from Earth-45 in the comics.

You can tell because "Doomsday" there still has the S emblem from Bizarro's previous form.

Why does this Doomsday look better than than one in the $450M movie? why is his origin story more comic accurate than the one in that same movie?
Anyway, I though the season was going to end with Clark getting killed...I just hope they already made the rest of the fight, because after the budget cuts this show got...

@TheHumanSpider2 - I always thought the BVS Doomsday origin was similar to the Our Worlds at War Doomsday origin.

Decent fight till they landed on the moon and Doomsday took a big breath then roared. How did he breathe in space? 🤷‍♂️🤣

@imnotwearinghockeypants - because it's actually a pretty solid show. And also has a lot less drama than the other CW shows
