Alex Garland is best known for writing DREDD as well as directing Ex Machina and the upcoming Annihilation starring Natalie Portman. During a recent Reddit Q&A, the filmmaker was asked about which comic book property he would be interested in turning his attention to and he name-dropped a very unexpected character. Who? Well, as we mentioned above, he'd like to work with Swamp-Thing.

Bear in mind that Warner Bros. is hard at work on finally trying to make Justice League Dark a reality, a movie which has lost a number of directors and would obviously feature Swamp-Thing in a lead role.

If the studio has any sense, they would look at hiring Garland to take charge of this project because he would be a great fit for this particular DC Comics adaptation and could even work on the script to bring it to where it needs to be. Would he actually be interested in taking charge of the entire supernatural team, though? That we don't know right now but it would certainly be fun to see this become a reality.

I never got Swamp Thing. I know people say the Alan Moore run was amazing, but... I just never cared for the horror-ish comics wheelhouse that (it seems) to be in.

Dredd was good, though. Would have maybe made a better TV show, and it was basically the Raid. Or Enemy Territory.

Raise your hand if you've seen Enemy Territory.

@Spock0Clock - have you tried the new 52 stuff. Alan Moore's is the best in my opinion but the new 52 stuff is really good too.

@noahthegrand - I've missed basically all of the New 52 stuff, too. Really, anything newer than fifteen years from either publisher I probably haven't even skimmed the cover.

@DetectiveCinema

Seriously WB, cut your loses and start a fresh film franchise kicking off with Alex Garland’s Swamp Thing (with John Constantine name dropped or having a role in the film) then following that up with Danny Boyle at the helm of a Hellblazer movie (starring Ewan McGregor), culminating with a Justice League Dark film (titled something like Heaven Sent, as JLD sounds silly. WB should cut all ties with their Justice League characters for now.
