Right on the heels of the news that Warner Bros.' new DC streaming service will officially be known as DC Universe, it's been announced that a new live-action Swamp Thing series will feature on it.

Swamp Thing is being developed as a one-hour show, and has Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and Gary Dauberman (It) on board to write the pilot. They'll also executive produce alongside Michael Clear and Aquaman director James Wan.

DC has also provided us with an official logline, and it certainly sounds like the show is sticking closely to Len Wein's original premise:

"When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

Below, you'll find the official logo as well as a Tweet from Wan confirming the news.

I loved the Swamp Thing cartoon as a kid, and I'm surprised that it's taken so long to get anything Swamp Thing related in the modern era.

A shout out to Return of the Swamp Thing starring Heather Locklear, man I watched it when it was on TV and sure a lot of other kids did as well.

Very excited!

Well at least I can say DC is King when it comes to shows and animation (IMO).

I really wish they could get their $hit together with their movies.

@JoeMomma29 - Ehhh, animation maaaaybe (their current offerings have sucked imo)
but shows? Hell, no. All of them are campy and horribly written.

@Ragnarocknroll - That is your opinion, yet most of their shows are highly praised and run for many seasons.

@JoeMomma29 - Highly praised? Eh, I dunno. I hear more criticisms than praise for Arrow, Flash, Gotham, Krypton and Supergirl. Also, running for many seasons isn't necessarily the best barometer for quality. Just look at Big Bang Theory.
Hell, Daredevil alone is better than any of the DC shows imo

@Ragnarocknroll - Hmmmmm well according to many fans on this site who live by RT scores most of these shows do extremely well. The only criticisms are the true CB fans on this site and others.

And yes running of many seasons does determine if a show is good. Long running seasons mean, people are watching and they are vested in the show.

I do agree that a show can run 10 seasons and by season 6, 7, or whatever the show can start to go down hill.

Daredevil was great season 1, after that it is okay. Heck I see more people on this site complaining about LC, JJ, and IF. Basically these shows are subject to personal opinion. Your opinion is DC shows are not really good, my opinion says otherwise. You are not wrong and neither am I.

Side-eyeing my wallet. She's gonna try to run, but I'll catch her.

Can anyone make a few Swamp Thing reading recommendations? I have the first two Alan Moore volumes, never got around to getting the last two. Any other runs I should read?
