Old Man Cap coming out of retirement to put Walker down

@BlackBeltJones - If we go by what FFH said, I'm pretty sure he's dead lol.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 10/22/2020, 8:04 AM
@KWilly - I think the " cover story" is that he died but I think Old Man Cap is still alive. Right?

The Avengers couldn't release a press release saying he's old now all of a sudden. I assume he is living his life, unbothered.

Not looking forward to the Homelander comparisons, which have already kinda started recently. I really like Wyatt Russell so hope people give him a chance here.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 10/22/2020, 8:03 AM
@Kurne - I think the difference here is prominent. The Homelander comparisons are superficial imo and even if you go deeper so completely on oposite ends. Homelander a man-boy with mommy issues and general egoist who dislikes attention directed at anything other than himself.

Walker's psychosis I assume is mainly due to the PRESSURE of having to be Steve Rogers coupled with an imperfect super soldier serum driving him mad. There's a lot to be said here about legacy, expectations, as well as the modern military industrial complex.

The idea of Cap as this fascist, ultranationalist symbol isn't that far off. Walker could represent how easy it is to manipulate and corrupt what Cap should stand for.

I'm just wondering how this is gonna be explained since captain america would probably still be associated with war crimes. It's not too farfetched since the 5 year time gap and Cap is clearly now able to live in the Avengers facility with no need to hide, I'm just wondering if the show will cover any of the details on Cap's life post snap in terms of public perception.

@Origame - he was honored in homecoming for giving his life for the world. I think he has some goodwill with the public

@Origame - he’s not going to be a war criminal
Origame
Origame - 10/22/2020, 8:04 AM
@MyCoolYoung - You're thinking of Far From Home but I get your point. I'm not saying it's a problem or doesn't have precedent. Just that we don't get much in terms of the public post snap.
Origame
Origame - 10/22/2020, 8:05 AM
@WruceBayne - He's objectively a war criminal for violating the Sokovia Accords. Sacrifice doesn't change that.

@Origame -

I think the world was still picking up the pieces and in shock during the time, but also Cap wasn't fairly active fighting.

I'd imagine Cap's likeability rating after endgame is 75/25% 70/30%. I do think Ross will use Cap's name to prop up Walker as a Cap we can trust or will take advantage of Cap's sacrifice and use that to bring in a Cap they can control

@Origame - He might have broken international laws, but that wouldn’t equate with being a “war criminal”... has anyone besides Spidey’s gym teacher suggested he was?

He’s guilty of breaking the Sokovia Accords, not the Geneva Convention. It’s probably more akin to being a pirate under International Law of the Sea.
Origame
Origame - 10/22/2020, 8:58 AM
@MyCoolYoung - I'd imagine it's a mixture of both.
Origame
Origame - 10/22/2020, 9:11 AM
@Chewtoy - The Geneva Convention isn't the end all be all of war crimes. All that talks about is the treatment of enemy troops in combat. There are also several articles alongside the Geneva Convention that constitute war crimes. And since the Sokovia Accords are specifically dealing with how enhanced individuals respond to conflicts on foreign soil, then they would be alongside those other articles in defining what counts as a war crime.
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 10/22/2020, 11:16 AM
@Origame - My very point is that there are different areas of international law, and all breaches of them do not automatically fall under “War Crimes”. Piracy is not a war crime, despite violently breaking international laws of the sea. The Sokovia Accords would likewise be a seperate set of charges, unlikely to be prosecuted under Section 8 of the Rome Statute of the U.N.’s International Criminal Court.

@Origame - Steve Rogers was a wanted man even during Winter Soldier... not necessarily Captain America which is a title bestowed by the military to him... which they can easily rescind and give to someone else.
Origame
Origame - 10/22/2020, 2:44 PM
@Chewtoy - the avengers are a paramilitary organization. So yeah, this is war crime territory.
Origame
Origame - 10/22/2020, 2:46 PM
@JonC - no. Where are you getting this? They gave him the rank of captain yes but the "title" of captain america is just something invented for selling bonds that steve decided to use in the war efforts.
