Most fans would tend to agree that Marvel Studios has done a pretty good job with a lot of the live-action costumes we've seen over the years, but there is also a perception that certain characters have been a bit short-changed when it comes to their superhero suits.

Though there have been a few exceptions (Captain America, for example), the studio has generally taken the approach that if a character doesn't have a secret identity to protect, then they don't need to wear a mask, and this has resulted in some classic costumes being given a significant overhaul for the screen.

Though Hawkeye did drop the mask in later comic runs, his distinctive "winged" helmet from his earliest appearances is something a lot of fans were hoping to see in his solo Disney+ series, and some new concept art from a recently-released Art Of book reveals a much more comic-accurate take on Clint Barton's outfit.

Does this mean Marvel was thinking about putting the Avengers' resident archer in his classic costume for the show? Not necessarily!

On closer inspection, this was actually one of the suits that was considered for the actor playing Hawkeye in the Steve Rogers: The Musical scene from the first episode.

Have a look at the image along with the full review video, which also features alternate costume designs for Echo, Kate Bishop, and Yelena Belova.

Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) recently made her return to the MCU in The Marvels, but we're not sure when we'll be seeing Clint Barton again. Jeremy Renner suffered a serious accident earlier this year, but has been making a very successful recovery. Of course, that doesn't mean he'll be ready to suit-up and start firing arrows again any-time soon.

Alaqua Cox, who made her debut as Maya Lopez in the series, is set to star in the Echo spin-off, which will be the first Marvel Studios project to be developed for the Spotlight banner.

"Hawkeye is based on the Marvel Comics superhero, centering on the adventures of Young Avenger, Kate Bishop, who took on the role after the original Avenger, Clint Barton. Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible?"

Would you have preferred to see Clint Barton don something closer to this costume in the Hawkeye series? Drop us a comment down below.

I LOVE seeing how the team at MARVEL always have the good ideas in the chamber, yet they still unload them and produce the terrible ones!!!

These last two phases are equivalent to mommy saying "share your toys with your sister!!!"

@Superheromoviefan - I hope, cause it looks ridiculous. And if it was the case wouldn't make sense anyway, cause the musical was based on the actual heroes.

It's a shame they didn't make a more comic accurate suit for Hawkeye.

Comics are a visual medium and if you have an innovated costume designer, they could've design something closer to his classic look for the films.

@Nomis929 - Totally agree. I think audiences like masks and mystique. It's all fake to begin with, so it's not a greater leap to incorporate a mask or other items such as head-pieces (Jack Kirby loved adding those to his characters). I think it's fair to say that most everyone loved to see a fairly comic accurate version of the Scarlet Witch in Wanda Vision -- over her first appearance in Age of Ultron where she looked like an ordinary Goth chick.

BTW, looking at Wanda at the end of Wanda Vision -- she looked incredible, flipping the pages of the Darkhold ... that was the high-water mark of the MCU. We were all expecting Mephisto and other incredible things in the years to come. And then, Feige green-lighted a massive frolic and detour, and all street-cred has been lost.

@GeneralZod - I remember when people were saying her Headpiece would look wrong on her on film. But They did a great job on it. Even Better in 'Multiverse of Madness'.

GeneralZod
GeneralZod - 11/22/2023, 1:54 PM
@Nomis929 - Yep. I pity the writers elected of MOM not have her fight Ch'thon but fight Dr. Strange instead. Mephisto could have appeared in the mid-credits and the MCU would be thriving with excitement. Instead we got Clea, leaving viewers (geeks like us and general audience) scratching their heads. What could have been.

@GeneralZod - That would've been the better way to go about things. I think a lot of us thought Chton would be behind it all before that movie came out.

Masks are the tricky part, in comics it's to conceal the identity. When you translate it to live action, you get Nathan Fillion in Suicide Squad, or Shaq as Steel lol

@bobevanz - It made even more sense for Clint to wear a mask, more than Cap. Clint had a FAMILY, Cap's family members from his generation would mostly be all dead.

One of those costumes that doesn't work in live action especially the mask

Considering they never once go into Clint's circus background I don't much see the point of a circus inspired costume for MCU Clint. This also wasn't for Clint at all but for Musical Hawkeye which makes even less sense.
Blastaar
Blastaar - 11/22/2023, 1:46 PM
@FearTheLiving - They REALLY disappointed me with the show, so many missed opportunities. Trickshot, Barney Barton, a REAL background into Mockingbird at S.H.I.E.L.D. I'd much rather they'd bring in Kate Bishop at the end of the series.
FearTheLiving
FearTheLiving - 11/22/2023, 2:05 PM
@Blastaar - I don't mind Kate being in at the start... but we for sure didn't need Swordsman to be regulated to her stepdad and focus more on Echo and Yelana over Clint who still got barely any character development. Then there was a deleted scene that goes into his childhood and Barney isn't even there either so we were probably never gonna get Barney...
Blastaar
Blastaar - 11/22/2023, 2:18 PM
@FearTheLiving - Yup, all just disappointing. I wish Marvel would fix Hawkeye(Clint) and give him his due, that show was HORRIBLE and didn't do him justice after getting the short end of the stick all this time.

I really with they’d stop holding back comic accurate costumes. Obviously elements need to be translated and changed but in general we are past the early 2000’s X-Men days of not doing the real thing. If you can do a translation of Deadpool, and Captain America (especially the Sam Wilson version) you can do just about anything. I’m currently rewatching Daredevil season 3 and the lengths go through to justify not putting Bullseye into anything resembling his own costume gets old after a while. Really with every Netflix character other than Daredevil they actively avoid making them look like their comic counterparts with the biggest offender being Iron Fist

Feige should refresh the design department! There's a guy named Rafa Grassetti, you should totally check his Instagram. He was the lead designer on the God Of War reboot and Ragnarok.

Actually makes sense given the explanation for the finale suits. Honestly I thought when they explained the larpers were making the suits, it was building up to the comic suits.

Honestly, I think Hawkeye is better without that mask. He just has one of those masks that just doesn't translate. It's a good color scheme though, purple and blue works.
Blastaar
Blastaar - 11/22/2023, 1:50 PM
@EgoEgor - It's just the design of the mask, what an innovative design it could work. He's the one with the family, he'd be the one that would need to conceal his identity.
