Jessica Jones and Doctor Who star David Tennant has weighed in on possibly reprising the role of Kilgrave in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so would he consider returning as the villainous Purple Man?

Jessica Jones lost its way after a stellar first season, ultimately making creative decisions with its characters that fans simply couldn't get on board with. However, Krysten Ritter's performance as the title character couldn't be faulted and neither could what David Tennant brought to the table as Kilgrave, a.k.a. Purple Man.

While the villain's story reached a somewhat definitive end after he was killed by Jessica, Kilgrave later returned as a figment of the P.I.'s imagination. Now, with Marvel Studios starting to bring back characters from "The Defenders Saga," could David Tennant be given the opportunity to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut?

Talking at the Fan Expo in Boston this weekend, the Doctor Who star told those in attendance that he thinks it would be "difficult" to bring Purple Man back, pointing out the character's "specific" relationship with Jessica Jones. However, he was also quick to mention that a return isn't off the table providing Marvel Studios can find a way to make it work.

It's worth noting that Kilgrave also has a storied history with Daredevil, and most recently factored heavily into the comic book storyline that saw The Kingpin take over New York City as its Mayor. Rumour has it the MCU's Wilson Fisk will also be gunning for that position, so Kilgrave could make his return.

After all, it's believed shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones took place in another part of the Multiverse, freeing Marvel Studios from having to adhere to any creative or casting decisions made by Marvel Television.

We'll see what the future holds in store for Purple Man, but rumour has it Ritter will return as Jessica in Echo before taking on an even greater role in Daredevil: Born Again

Killgrave to me is one of, if not the best villain in the MCU Multiverse. He had a good run and a good ending, so if they bring him back, they need to make it right and it needs to be worth it.

@Fares - We were just talking about him the other day.

He was great in season 1 of Jessica Jones definitely top 3 best Marvel Villains and Jessica Jones Season 1 was the second best Netflix show after Daredevil.

Honestly, I don't even need an excuse. Tennant is a delight and I'm always happy to have him. Even if it's just a cameo of his purple ass in custody on the Raft, it'd be great to see him in the MCU proper.

@Doomsday8888 - Look, I love the man, but Ritter was pulling her weight, too.

Of course, no offence intended to her.

But, clearly, she wasn't enough.

I agree with most of the comments here that he was a great villain, but I don't really wanna see him return. Tennant is right that it's a very specific character, and I don't really see him fitting in anywhere right now.

I know that it may seem like lazy writing, but given Kilgrave’s abilities they could always pull a kind of a “Dallas” move and have most of what happened in JJ S1 and S2 just be delusions that he made JJ believe. I mean, what better way to get her off of his trail if she believes that she killed him. Plus it would allow the writers to keep the parts of that show that they want and either ignore the rest or write them off as delusions. Plus plus it would give JJ another reason to hate him and want to hunt him down, maybe with DD’s help? OR if the rumors are true that in Echo or DD:BA Matt is trying to find JJ then maybe it’s to get her help in tracking down Kilgrave.

For me the best Seasons of Jessica Jones were the 1st and 2nd, but I did think the villain of the 3rd Season worked.

Most logical way to plan his return is by introducing his Earth-616 Variant.
