Following the conclusion of Loki's second season last week, Marvel Studios has released a new poster for the Disney+ series offering a closer look at the God of Mischief's updated MCU role as "God Loki."

In the closing moments of Loki's season 2 finale, the God of Mischief destroyed the Time Loom and created a new Multiverse which he now sits at the centre of.

Seemingly destined to remain there for eternity, Loki has used the powers He Who Remains gave him to create a Yggdrasil-like Multiverse which can be truly infinite (giving those on the Sacred Timeline the free will that Kang Variant took from them when he formed the Sacred Timeline).

Today, Marvel Studios has released two new posters which officially welcome God Loki to the MCU's Multiverse Saga. He's always been a God, of course, but an argument could be made that he's now the God. After all, the Asgardian is responsible for keeping every existence in creation alive, though the incursions taking place - and the Kang Variants who will soon wage war - may free him when it's inevitably destroyed.

Recently, Tom Hiddleston suggested his time as the character ended with Loki's season 2 finale.

"It all comes full circle," the British actor, who first played Loki in 2011's Thor, told Jimmy Fallon. He'd add, "It's the conclusion to season 2, it's also the conclusion to seasons 1 and 2. It's also the conclusion to six films and 12 episodes and 14 years of my life. 14 years. I was 29 when I was cast, I'm 42 now. It's been a journey."

We're sure he'll be back eventually, particularly as the character is sure to be a key part of the next Avengers movies. His knowledge of the Multiverse and link to the TVA should be crucial to where this Saga is heading and, if nothing else, it may be Loki who is responsible for creating the rebooted MCU which will reportedly recast fan-favourites and welcome the X-Men into the fold. We'll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, check out these new posters for Loki season 2 below.

Loki season 2 will pick up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15 and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.

The series stars Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Tara Strong, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, with Jonathan Majors, Ke Huy Quan and Owen Wilson.

Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Dan Deleeuw and Kasra Farahani direct episodes. The Head Writer is Eric Martin.

All episodes of Loki season 2 are now streaming on Disney+.

Loki season 1 kind of bored me. Season 2 was excellent! Loki will be back.

In a VERY big way.

Tom's acting chops were on full display in the S2 finale. Man is he talented. I hope to see him in the future as Loki, but who knows... until then, thank you for making Loki your own

When exactly did loki become a God?

He was born a frost giant.
He learned magic from his adoptive asgardian mother.

Hell, HOW did he become a God?
This is something COMPLETELY glossed over by marvel.

@r1g0r - There are no "real" gods in the MCU, only alien/extra-dimensional beings perceived as gods by humans. But I guess the case could be made that, what with his gaining complete control over space and time and all, that the end of S2E6 is when he became a god.

@r1g0r - Odin straight up says in the first Thor "we are not gods."

Hell, even Fandrall makes note of it in the same film.

Worthless questions.

@EskimoJ - but they are! You are basing your statement because of a Dark World line? In that time the MCU was a little coward to settle them as gods, but since Ragnarok they brought the gods elements to the table. Say what you want about Taika, but nobody give him credit of ignoring the pusillanimous take on "we are not gods" and he actually established them as gods. Also, no, not only human have gods, but also other aliens, as it was shown in Love and Thunder.

And yet the mcu KEEPS referring to him (and them) as such.

Worthless non-answer.

@r1g0r - maybe not a god in the physical sense, but he is definitely revered as one.

Still, I'm sticking to Loki being a Norn now. It's a deity, but not a god.

Sad statement but… “This is the best Marble I’ve seen in years.” I miss getting excited for Marble stuff and that hasn’t happened since Endgame. Stop boring me and please excite me again like the good ole days.

Guess he proved Sylvie wrong then. He is playing god after all (although I'm sticking to calling him a Norn)

Loki's not a god. He's just an alien ice giant. There's only One God and He is YHWH Jehovah, the Father of Jesus Christ His only Begotten Son, who saved our souls in the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and that God raised Him from the dead, repent of your sins, accept God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit into your heart and you will be saved.

God worked through Jesus Christ to save our souls. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, that all who believe on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father Jehovah God but through Him.

Not long after I got saved I prayed to God for help understanding the Holy Bible, and that same day someone knocked on my door asking me if I wanted to understand the Bible.

@dagenspear - hey, man, respectfully, please spare us the proselytization. There's a difference between religion and fiction, and this is one. We know that Loki isn't real, and therefore isn't actually a god. We're talking about the context of the fictional world that he inhabits.

@ClintThaHamster - There is no difference between religion and fiction.
clintthahamster
clintthahamster - 11/14/2023, 10:12 AM
@UncleHarm1 - Short answer, I agree. Long answer, religion, being the organized practice of a faith typically based on mythological concepts, is a fairly distinct thing, though the stories that those religions are based on are largely fictional (outside of a handful of verifiable historical frameworks.) But, even then, I think mythology and fiction play different roles in our culture, even when both are approached from a secular POV.

Can you tell I took a lot of literature and religious studies classes in college?
UncleHarm1
UncleHarm1 - 11/14/2023, 11:50 AM
@ClintThaHamster - I think religion and fiction play similar roles, passing on valuable life lessons generationally, with the distinction that mythology is given more weight due to the expectation that it's to be believed as fact at least to some extent.

Sigmund Freud's writings on early religion, the birth of monotheism, and the Moses myth are a great breakdown of how society and cultural psychology have evolved alongside religion. Though he goes as far as to say religion is just mass neurosis.

I wonder what he'd have to say about the cult of online CBM toxicity lol
clintthahamster
clintthahamster - 11/14/2023, 1:13 PM
@UncleHarm1 - Believe it or not, I've actually read Freud's Moses and Monotheism, though I'll admit that the Moses bit stayed with me more than the Monotheism bit. It's also been 25 years.

Anyhoo, for me, fiction is too broad a category to compare it meaningfully to religion, though some Great Bodies of Work (Shakespeare comes to mind, but also Arthurian lore, AC Doyle, PK Dick, HP Lovecraft, Stan and Jack) come close.
UncleHarm1
UncleHarm1 - 11/15/2023, 12:26 AM
@ClintThaHamster - That's really the only comparison I'm drawing, mythological lore and creative writing. L. Ron Hubbard comes to mind.

Ironically I am actually writing a book about the role of spiritual storytelling in human evolution, the societal and psychological benefits of making generational knowledge more fantastical, and the dangers of taking such stories literally. It is a fictional narrative with some of my own lore woven into historical events and mythology.

Hey, thanks for making an intellectual conversation out of my sh!tposting. That doesn't happen very often.
