May the 4th be with you!

To mark this year's Star Wars Day celebrations, Lucasfilm has released a brand-new trailer and poster for its next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte.

In addition to some exciting lightsaber action, the teaser reveals more story details, as Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) vows to bring his wayward former apprentice Mae (Amandla Stenberg) to justice.

Mae doesn't appear to be the only one taking down Jedi, however, as we also get a first proper look at the mysterious Sith villain who is behind the murders. His (her?) face is obscured (with a mask not too dissimilar to the ones Kylo Ren and his Knights wore in the sequel trilogy), which may indicate that this formidable warrior will ultimately be unveiled as an already established character.

"I really wanted to tell a story about the Sith," showrunner Leslye Headland tells EW. "That was kind of my dream Star Wars idea. But it felt like the time period to do that in would be something pre-Phantom Menace. That seemed to be the most interesting trajectory for the Sith: How did the Sith go from the Rule of Two and being quote-unquote 'extinct' to Palpatine coming into power without the Jedi knowing about it?"

Check out the trailer below along with a new poster, and let us know what you think in the comments section.

In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.

The series also stars Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Leslye Headland created the series, based on Star Wars by George Lucas, and serves as an executive producer along with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are the co-executive producers. Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Eileen Shim and Rob Bredow are the producers.

Headland also directed the premiere episodes (Eps. 101 & 102). Directors Kogonada (Eps. 103 & 107), Alex Garcia Lopez (Eps. 104 & 105) and Hanelle Culpepper (Eps. 106 & 108) round out the directing duties on the series.

Award-winning composer Michael Abels, known for his work on Get Out and Us, scored The Acolyte.

@HashTagSwagg - red light sabers don't mean sith. Not blaming you for not knowing that. You'd have to have dug into some of the novels and games to know that.

@Vigor - I know the EU stuff but from a general audiences perspective:
Red means Sith, Blue and Green are Jedi, Purple means Sam Jackson and Yellow is garbage fan fiction.

@AnthonyVonGeek - then how did Yoda and mace know about the rule of 2? They knew stuff. Why would mace windu develop a sith killing form? Because he knew that they existed. Yoda is covering up stuff.

And I bet in this show they'll explain how the colors work some more and all the different "religions" associated with the force. I see they have light side witch in the show

@HashTagSwagg - Revan isn’t canon. They knew because they will find out here and cover it up. The rule of 2 started long after Revan.

@AnthonyVonGeek - The entire point of The Phantom Menace was discovering that the Sith had not, in fact, been instinct and had been operating in secret all along under the Rule of Two. This is further elaborated on by Dooku and Palpatine the latter two prequels.

Sometimes, you’ve just got to pay a little bit of attention, especially when stuff like this is spoon fed to you.

@Itwasme - "I think people have problems that women can be Jedi"

Incorrect.

People have problems with modern writers and their very mundane way of storytelling in today's society of entertainment. That every female protagonist has to be some self made flawless girl BOSS that has all the strengths and none of the weaknesses. It's a tiresome trope that has only gone downhill more and more. Now hopefully it won't be the case for The Acolyte and there will be solid and good character development for each of the characters pushing the story forward but I won't hold my breath since this is Disney we're talking about. Shogun recently reminded me how a true strong female character is depicted and I'm really hoping that Hollywood takes notes on that (and yes I know that FX/Hulu is owned by Disney, but Disney didn't write the miniseries).

@TheLight - ahh, Anakin, Luke, even Han Solo... SW is riddled with Mary Sue's, but the only one they have a problem with is the women. That's ridiculous.

@Itwasme - You don't hear anyone in complaining about Fallout female lead.

You know why? Because she wasn't perfect, she had flaws, learnt new skills and grew stronger as a person with each episode.

So different to the women in modern Star Wars.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 5/4/2024, 3:17 PM
@marvel72 - so different from Anakin and Luke too. People literally complain Luke, who had badically zero training, is not omnipotent. Ridiculous.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 5/4/2024, 3:19 PM
@marvel72 - people liked Leia when she was little more than a damsel in distress, but once she started to use the force people started hating her.
marvel72
marvel72 - 5/4/2024, 3:26 PM
@Itwasme - Luke grew as a character over 3 movies.
What about losing his hand or Kenobi lying to him about his father, not being able to get the X-Wing out of the swamp, almost getting his ass kicked in the canteen but Ben saved him.The Wampa attack and almost dying on hoth but was found by Solo, couldn't defeat the emperor without help from his father.

Rey didn't have any flaws good at everything without any training or being shown what to do, defeated Emperor on her own.

marvel72 - 5/4/2024, 3:28 PM
@Itwasme - Because of that crap Mary Poppins scene, she should have just died in space.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 5/4/2024, 3:31 PM
@marvel72 - she fails often in the trilogy, especially when it comes to the emotional tests. She even fails Luke's teachings. To say she doesn't fail isn't accurate.
Itwasme
Itwasme - 5/4/2024, 3:35 PM
@marvel72 - but Han Solo can sneak up on the greatest pilot in the galaxy (who can even see what's going to happen before it happens) in what is basically a modified 18 wheeler... and your complaint is that Leia uses the force to save herself after Like even said he was Training her.

What training does Han have to sneek up on Vader, sneak onto the Death Star with Vader's son, daughter and a thought dead Obi Wan, plus the doid Vader built?

This is Star Wars, if you can't accept some of these things you should just go watch something else.

HashTagSwagg

@Itwasme - I don't normally write books here but there is a stark difference between how Luke and Anakin were handled compared with how Rey was handled.

Luke in the first film: holds a lightsaber for the first time, practices with it and fails with it and fails to use the force. Doesn't use it in combat instead his final battle he pilots a ship which makes sense because it's stated earlier in the film that he's had training in it.

Anakin in his film: we find out he is a slave who spends most of his time making and fixing broken things while he practices how to be a better pilot with his vehicle. He has a high sperm count but can't do jack with it as he's never had the training so he doesn't do jack with it (makes sense right), so for his final battle, he gets in a ship and we're shown he doesn't instantly know what he's doing with it and were shown him trying to figured it out.

Rey in her first film: holds a lightsabre for the first time and is instantly given the ability to use the force and is somehow able to beat the dude who's committed his entire life not just to uses the force but also battle I lightsaber, her primary weapon up until that point was wielding a stick the way you world a spear, yet she out skills him, body and mind. She also understands the falcon better than Han himself and is somehow able to fly it into space, she's been stuck on this planet since she was a child, who taught her this?

I'll try and be short with the next ones here.

Luke in the second film, has very little training and it's brought up. He doesn't win despite this, in fact he has his ass handed to him by Vader.

Anakin in the second film: it's years later, he's had training longer than Luke, he still has a high sperm count but again it doesn't do shit for him as were shown him make fck up after fck throughout the film, he loses in the end aswell.

Rey by her second film: Rey gets taught 2 out of 3 lessons before she beats the shit out of her master and then ditch's his ass. She's spent most of her life on a desert planet and has apparently never seen so much green in her life but she can swim like a champ. She already bested her opponent in the last film so now you'd think he's gotta be the one to come back swinging this time right? fck no. She best's him again.

Luke's third film: time has past, he's had more training, he's shown kicking ass yet he still makes some fck ups in which he's almost killed.

Anakin's third film, Time has past, he's had more training, he's shown kicking ass yet still makes some fck ups in which he's almost killed.

Rey's third film, Time has past, she had some training, she beats her opponent again (shocker). She now force heals and shoots lightening out of her ass, she sorta loses one fight (a legit shocker) and then defeats the big bad plot contrivance at the end.
