Venom wasn't a critical hit but it clearly struck a chord with moviegoers because it ultimately made $855 million at the worldwide box office. Now, Spider-Man: Far From Home producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that a sequel - with Tom Hardy - is indeed moving forward at Sony Pictures.

"I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can," she revealed. As for what led to Venom's success, Pascal added: "It's a couple of things. One of them is that Sony did a great job creating that franchise and giving it a life and giving it its own world. Then there's Tom Hardy."

"When you think of Venom, you'll never be able to think of anyone but Tom Hardy sitting in that bathtub of lobsters."

Pascal wouldn't commit to any updates on Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Tom Hardy's Venom crossing paths on the big screen, but noted that the most important thing is to ensure that these franchises all work individually. However, she's well aware of the interest from fans. "Everybody would love to see that. You never know someday... it might happen."

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was another hit for Sony, and while there are reports of the franchise moving to the small screen, Pascal promised that Miles Morales will swing back into theaters.

"Well, of course it's going to be on the big screen and it's going to be about Miles," she said. "I don't think you should exclude [Miles from a live-action movie]. I think you should assume there is nothing to exclude." What about Tom Holland's Spider-Man, though? "I can say that we've had a fantastic partnership and you never know what's going to happen."

"We have a lot of stories to tell about Spider-Man, in every facet."

from the Spider-Man: Far From Home social media reactions!

The Ending Will Blow Your Mind

Multiple critics have said that Spider-Man: Far From Home's ending can't be missed, and with so many rumours swirling about what may or may not come next for the wall-crawler in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there's a very good chance that this is going to be a very big deal.

I've seen the movie and can assure you that it is indeed a game-changer, a sentiment echoed throughout pretty much all of those social media reactions. Needless to say, avoiding spoilers is a must even if it won't be particularly easy after next week's premiere and the fact that the sequel is going to open in China even earlier than the rest of the world on June 28th.

Don't Miss The Post-Credits Scenes (Yes, There Are Two)

Avengers: Endgame didn't feature a single post-credits scene, but Spider-Man: Far From Home does indeed have two of them. As you might expect, no details have been revealed about them just yet but the majority of reactions praise them as being among the best efforts yet from Marvel Studios.

It also sounds like not having them spoiled beforehand is essential, while some even go so far as to say they're unmissable which means they're probably superior to Homecoming's stingers.

The Best Version Of MJ Yet?

A lot of fans were baffled when Michelle was named "MJ" at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and while Zendaya has set the internet on fire with her new red hair, it sounds like critics are now fully on board with this version of the character. We know from the trailers that Peter Parker is romantically interested in his classmate, and the sequel's love story elements are also widely praised.

The question is, will MJ get that red hair from the comic books in Far From Home? Well, that's not something that's answered in any of the reactions, so it seems fans will just have to wait and see.

It's Better Than Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a great Spider-Man movie, but it was a very different take on the wall-crawler as he wasn't experienced and stuck to his corner of the world in Queens.

The trailers have shown the hero swinging through Manhattan so that's certainly a good start, and while we don't have specifics from these Tweets regarding just how much the comic books are embraced here, the majority seem to agree that it's superior to the previous instalment. For what it's worth, though, a handful of people did seem to enjoy Homecoming a little bit more.

Expect Some "Bizarre" Scenes

One of the most intriguing reactions comes from a critic who says that Mysterio's involvement leads to some "bizarre" scenes in Far From Home. Given the nature of his comic book counterpart's powers, it likely won't take long for fans to theorise what this could mean, but it's hard to say for sure, especially as the trailers haven't shown much beyond him flying and firing energy blasts.

More and more clips are now being released, so perhaps more details will be revealed soon.

It Demands Repeat Viewings

Another common theme in these reactions is that Spider-Man: Far From Home is a movie that fans should watch more than once, and even critics who don't usually get that excited about comic book adaptations seemingly can't wait to check it out again as soon as it arrives in theaters.

That's a good sign, but it makes you wonder what it is about this movie that makes it one worth watching multiple times. Clearly, there's some really special stuff from start to finish!

A Perfect Avengers: Endgame Epilogue

Far From Home is the first Marvel Studios movie to arrive in theaters since Avengers: Endgame, and that means there's a lot of pressure on it to answer some big questions and set the stage for whatever comes next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Well, based on what we've seen from critics over the past 24 hours, it sounds like the sequel succeeds in that respect, addressing both some lingering theories and revealing how this world looks after that five-year time-jump following Thanos' attack.

The Most Comic Book-y Marvel Movie Yet

Another promising sign is that critics believe Spider-Man: Far From Home is one of the most comic book-y movies to come from Marvel Studios in its 10+ year history.

When you look at things like the Portal scene in Avengers: Endgame and Earth's Mightiest Heroes battling each other in Captain America: Civil War, that's a bold statement, but one that's said enough to make us think that the sequel is going to deliver a lot of moments fans have been waiting for.

Jake Gyllenhaal Is A Great Mysterio

Hero or villain? Time will tell, but it sounds like Marvel Studios couldn't have found a better actor to take on the role of Quentin Beck. The actor was once up for the role of Spider-Man when it looked like Tobey Maguire was going to drop out, but it seems as if saving him for this character instead was definitely for the best in the long run.

The dynamic between Gyllenhaal and Tom Holland also sounds like a highlight, and based on everything shown in the trailers and TV spots, he could very well end up stealing the show next month.

The worst thing Marvel ever did, business-wise, was the way they allowed their licensing rights to be worded, without a renegotiation clause after X number of years but, rather, giving a perpetuity right, so long as films went into production in X number of years, with no escape clause. It's a shame but it is what it is...

@FoxForce5 - All that’s left is to buy Sony then. I can’t count how many times I read on this website how Marvel would NEVER get the X-Men or FF back, EVER. Just a few short years later things haven’t played out as many predicted.

Not saying Mick Mouse and Co. are going or aren’t going to buy Sony. But who know what the future holds. Who thought the 2016 election would play out that way?

Life throws curveballs sometimes. It played to out benefit with Disney shoring up some of their characters when they took over Fox.

If only DC could get their shet together. Wouldn’t that be nice?

@FoxForce5 - Not really if they hadn’t we arguably wouldn’t have the MCU, they didn’t have the money to make movies not the brand recognition to do it themeselves. If it wasn’t for Blade, Spiderman, and X-men paving the way we might not even have an MCU
FoxForce5
FoxForce5 - 6/20/2019, 3:51 PM
@Ha1frican - Yeah, they were bankrupt and needed to sell the licensing rights. 100%! But the lawyers they had at the time were (arguably) not the best in the business and not really keen in the film industry so they negotiated terms which I would consider below standard when it comes to film licensing rights.

That, combined with executives who, at the time, were thinking of keeping the company above water and not in the long term, lead to the "perpetual" deals. They likely could have cut a deal for, say 12 or even 20 years, with a renegotiation clause after that, which would have expired some time ago and is something a company like Sony would have probably not even though of as much of an issue. There are a few other things which could have been added too which would have reverted the rights, such as a carefully worded "non-compete" but they were just not looking at things like that because of their situation and lack of involvement in film.

Keep in mind that they only sold the rights to Spider-Man for $7 Million. There is usually wiggle room with this kind of deal, especially if they had put it on the table from the beginning but they were not looking at it in those terms. After all, they also offered Sony the rights to all the characters they hadn't already sold off to Fox and New Line and what-have-you, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, etc. for only $25 Million but Sony thought that only Spider-Man had, what they considered, "Limited Potential".

The point being, while Marvel had to make a deal, they had the wrong people in charge of making the deal at the time.

@MuadDib - Honestly Sony is not doing good when it comes to movie franchises.
They have very few IP's and most of their IP's keep bombing except for Spiderman. Spiderman is basically all that's keeping Sony pictures afloat.

Venom 2 has my interest because of Harrelson’s Carnage and of course, Hardy’s Venom but I hope they trim the fat from the first film and just focus on the two characters.

@inkniron - Preach!

Get that garbage outta here!

To each their own, but I see any support for hot garbage like this as a nail in the coffin of their ever being a united Marvel cinematic universe.

What we need is a strike! Send the right signal. If you want to see Venom and 100+ other characters in the actual MCU then vote for it. And for the record you vote with money.

I don’t support brands that use palm oil.

Why doesn’t Sony do what they did for Spider-Man and just sub-lease the characters back to Marvel or whatever. Let Marvel run point, they get the benefit of being in the MCU and the gazzillions of dollars it’s making.

@CurlyBill - Pascal being involved may be the only thing that keeps Spider-man in the MCU, especially with Tom Rothman in charge at Sony Pictures.

She is a necessary evil.

After Hardy and Venom, if the franchise joins the MCU, I think you'll most likely see Spider-Holland in the black suit and then Agent Venom.
