Jon Bernthal will reprise the role of Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again, and a new rumor points to a brand-new Punisher series entering development at some point...

After months of rumors and speculation, we recently got confirmation that Jon Bernthal will reprise the role of Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, for Daredevil: Born Again, and a new report is now claiming that a solo Disney+ series featuring the ultra-violent vigilante is in development.

Of course, Bernthal already led his own Punisher Netflix show for two seasons. One would assume this new project would be considerably less dark and violent, but Born Again is expected to take the intensity up a few notches in its own right. Also, Bernthal has stated on several occasions that he'd have no interest in returning as a "watered down" take on Castle.

We're still not sure how the Punisher will factor into Born Again, but previous reports have indicated that he won't have a huge role, so his part may lay the groundwork for this series.

We'll have to take this as a rumor for the time being, but @MyTimeToShineHello has a pretty solid track record.

In related news, Deborah Ann Woll has confirmed that she won't be back as Karen Page.

Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), Vincent D'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk) will also reprise their respective roles from the Netflix Daredevil series, along with new cast members Michael Gandolfini, Nikki M. James and Sandrine Holt. We recently learned that Holt will play The Kingpin's wife, Vanessa Fisk, while James is rumored to be playing assistant DA Kristen McDuffie.

The show will be loosely based on the '80s Marvel Comics series of the same name by Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli, but is not expected to be an overly faithful adaptation. Despite some significant changes to the story, "Daredevil versus Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, remains the focal point."

Matt Corman and Chris Ord are on board as writers and executive producers. No premiere date has been announced, but the show is expected to bow in the spring of 2024.

@mountainman @GhostDog @Bucnastydathird - Actually, you guys would be surprised at how good this show actually was. I first watched it about 10 or 12 years ago when I was but a wee grad student who had time to watch stuff like this and Adult Swim. I later revisited it about 3 or 4 years ago to see if my oldest daughter would be interested in it (because, ya know, daddies have to impress their own interests on their kids) and she actually really loved it at the time (she was ~3 years old and Hulk was her favorite character).

That's all to say that it's one of those shows that appeals to both adults and kids with the dialogue and plots (kinda like "Rick and Morty" but not quite as deep). One thing that it does REALLY well is make fun of itself and Marvel in general. I mean, hell, in the show they made Stan Lee the mayor of Superhero City and had Stan the Man voice the character. They also run with a bunch of the most famous storylines from the comics such as the Infinity Saga, Silver Surfer/ Galactus, etc. Oh, and Doom is a major baddie in the first season, if I recall correctly. But for as bad as you think he is, his MOTHER is even worse. And I'm not even joking here.

@0bstreperous -
The 'Disney+ Marvel series' brand is so damaged at this point they are returning to the Netflix shows that were popular if a desperate attempt to try and get some pity views for their knock-off products.

@Scarilian - Danaged ? No. They just took a hard turn into stuff that infuriates incels and bigots. The only valid criticism imo is that they did too much in that vein and should have had some more traditional offerings.

@JDL - hi, not an incel or a bigot here, just straight up not enjoying the stories they are telling.

@Razorface1 - That's too bad because individually most of then have very decent at worst. If you honestly don't like them for reasons not rooted in a bigoted pov, fine. But wanting something else more and pouting and whining cause they went another way isn't good enough and that's what I'm mostly see from from the anti crowd.

@Scarilian - Except the Punisher series wasn't that popular. Daredevil season 2, yes, but the solo series? No.

Since Bernthal said he'd only come back if Punisher remained as gruesome as he was..

Im very interested how this turns out

First negate the entire canon of the Netflix solo series. Then I can't wait.

If the netflix series/origin is assumed canon, then hard pass.

@TheManWithoutFear - I don't mind his origin story in the Netflix series, instead of the mob we've got corrupt parts of the army killing his family.
Plus I really liked Barnes as Jigsaw.

@TheManWithoutFear - they'll probably ignore his origins or just quickly mention it. Then bring other villains.

@TheManWithoutFear - The canon being reset is a given, since they've already did that with Daredevil

@LeonNova - I think that's still unconfirmed. In fact, I hear more rumours that DD Netflix IS canon than vice versa

Which for the record I don't mind at all. I love the DD Netflix series (obviously)

Maybe D+ would fly better with the classic TV formula of testing the waters for a new series through a direct-to-D+ movie to gauge interest.
Could also be shot on the sets of current shows in production to save cash.

Loved punisher in daredevil, his own season1 and 2 were lackluster. He needs for vengence and violence, much more, like in the anime movie, avengers confidential, widow and punisher. If they bring that to a show, will be a total winner. Dont know if disney has the cojones to show the real punisher...

Marvel should make an adult-focused corner of the MCU. Maybe call it Marvel Knights. Don’t water down the more mature characters. Give the kids their stuff and make other projects for a more mature audience.

I’m down if it’s an unapologetic Punisher show. Just balls to the wall action, John Wick style. No soppy shit.

@PlusUltra - This right here! There were some good parts of the Netflix show, but Punisher should be similar to John Wick or The Raid.
