Ahsoka's first season still hasn't wrapped-up, but we're hearing that the show has already been renewed for a second run, and work on the next batch of episodes began prior to the strikes...

The fifth episode of Ahsoka is now streaming on Disney+, and we still have two sure-to-be eventful chapters to go before this first season wraps up. However, a new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that the show has been renewed for a second season.

According to industry insider Daniel RPK (via Patreon), not only has a sophomore run for The Mandalorian spin-off been green-lit, but work on the second batch of episodes had begun prior to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes kicking off.

In many ways, this really isn't that surprising. So far, The Mandalorian is the only Disney+ Star Wars show to get a second season (Andor also has another on the way), but with the events of Ahsoka playing out in the same time period and Dave Filoni building towards his movie (which is expected to serve as a culmination of his streaming series), a second season of Ahsoka always seemed likely.

Episode 5, "Shadow Warrior," concluded with Ahsoka and Huyang travelling to parts unknown in the mouth of a giant interdimensional space whale known as a Purrgil (yes, this really is Star Wars Rebels season 5) in the hopes of finding their long-lost friend Ezra Bridger and preventing the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who will wage another war against the Rebels.

We're not sure how things are going to play out over the next two episodes (though there are some very interesting rumors out there), but we'd say there's a good chance Thrawn will make his way back to his own galaxy in the finale, setting things up for a second season.

Have you been enjoying Ahsoka so far? Drop us a comment down below.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.

Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.

But Why?

If the show isn't well received why waste time on a second season?

That sounds like a waste of time and money.

@SteelGunZ -

Season 1, episodes 1-4
(Everyone): The show is boring or meh.

Episode 5
(Everyone): Oh, my Gosh! This show is amazing! The references to “The Clone Wars” show was so great! Seeing Anakin with a red lightsaber was something I only imagined seeing as a kid, but now it’s actually happening on screen!!! Hayden Christianson is one of the best actors of our time! This show is the epitome of great television!!!

@SteelGunZ - Who said the show wasn't well received? In spite of the last episode being a bit over-hyped, this has been a very solid good show, at least to me.

@SteelGunZ - you clearly don’t hang around actual fan communities. Even the tougher ones like on Reddit have been very positive on the show.

@DannyDischarge - It's a no attention span gen...they don't have times for things like world building or plot development.

@SteelGunZ - Isn't well received? It's being very well received by SW fans...lots even calling it the best SW content since Lucas was running SW.

@Mugens - Yep...any SW fan not liking this show is just po at the way Disney has treated SW ...or just po and done with Disney period.Look...I get that ...there are crap ton of people that have jumped off the Disney ship and that's not going to stop because Disney is gonna Disney...but this show is the best pure SW content we've got since Lucas.

By whom? 🤨

It's critic rating is 88% and audience score is 74% in rotten tomatoes. It's an 8 on iMDB too.

What's the criteria for "well received" if this doesn't qualify? A completely perfect score?

Who'd cancel a show with those numbers these days? I'd say it's well enough received to definitely consider a second season.

@SteelGunZ - I hear there was some theater screenings that had lines around the block and some people weren't able to get in to see an episode of a show 5 eps in. There's DEFINITELY gonna be a second season...

Little Gamora grew into young Ashoka.

That actress has 3 big properties under her belt already (star wars, infinity War & Barbie).

They better! Some of the best Star Wars they’ve made in a while. Hopefully the last three episodes keep up the quality. Bring on season 2.

Makes perfect sense. The series is very well done so far and we haven’t seen Thrawn yet.

Most boring star wars show yet. Standing still - Faux deep dramatic sentence - pause - faux feep dramatic reply - pause - slow head tilt - standing still - new faux deep dramatic statement linked to rebels - pause - standing still - close up of Rosario Dawson's browless inert face....YAAAAAAWWWN.

Other than Mandalorian S01 and (maybe) Rogue One, this has been top notch as far as Disney-produced Star Wars content
